A failure to learn? Or just carelessness, in which case they probably need a re-test...

I'd imagine that the system will catch up with them Peter especially the insurance system!

My scenario.......
May 2013 ticket for 81 in NSA zone on dual carriageway by camera van
Points and fine.
No arguments as " a fair cop".
Mid 2014 23 in a 20 zone by camera van
Paperwork came through...letter offering a speed awareness course.
I thought it odd due to previous ticket inside time limits.
Tried to book a course on internet but failed to.
Contact local Safety Camera Unit. Sent email and got reply they would check.
Told them I was confused due to timescale and deadline dates etc
Reply came....
They had put wrong date on the offence on their computer so it appeared I was past the deadline to apply for awareness course.
This was corrected and I was able to sign on for the course.
When querying my eligibility for the course I was told that a new 20mph course system was starting and I would be eligible. I was in one of the first groups nationwide and would be sent a survey quesrionaire after the course re its effectiveness etc, as a type of guineapig.
Course attended.
Told clearly that records would be wiped as NO OFFENCE would be recorded. The only record as such was the date of the course for their use only re future eligibility.They did say that it was not compulsory to inform insurers and was anti insurers on this point. He added that at the time Admiral were the only ones asking. He added again that data protection prevented disclosure of the course as NO OFENCE recorded. He left it as " it's up to you if you do or not".
The people running the courses are private companies.
On my course date there were 2 sessions, am and pm, with 20 in each
40 x £80 = £3200
Not a bad earner after venue hire( hotel conference room) and wages for 2 course takers.
My opinion of the course?
Worthwhile as it gave excellent reminders re hazard awareness etc that most drivers will get slack on.
In my survey reply I added a comment that such a reminder course would benefit every driver not just speeders. It has certainly made me more aware.

As an aside.......not speeding but example of stupidity...so a drift off thread.
Last week I was second in line at temp lights on red. Van behind me....he stopped.
He then pulled out and overtook us and went through the red light basically to catch up with cars in front that went through on green before oncoming traffic came.
Blatant action.
In my mirror I then saw a car passing the queue we were in from 15-20 cars back, on wrong side of the road, speeding past to jump red after the van! He appeared to catch the van up before lights the other end changed so a fast speed indeed!
I was gobsmacked!
If I had a dashcam I might have been tempted to pass to police, especially as the second car was so stupid.
There are a few lights junctions in our area where amber gamblers seem to be common.
Perhaps more cameras need to be on such junctions...

That was 2013 - the insurers have changed their rules since, nothing to do with police records more to do with your driving behaviour.

People are getting quite cross at having premiums raised when they inform their insurers as they were informed on the courses that it wouldn't effect them.

How would your insurer know you've been on a course? Assuming you don't tell them..?

As I understand it, the insurer has no way of knowing if you've done a course. But, if your insurer says you must declare a speeding course, and you don't, you have committed insurance fraud. And if they then find out, say via 'social media' be prepared for a huge hike in premiums - if they'll even cover you at all!

And declining to cover will haunt you till the end of your days. I've got one, but it was so long ago I really don't mince my words. Nor does it make any difference, long story, basically broker incompetence.

Perhaps I'll disclose that I went on a Cycling Proficiency Course in 1962.........
Plus numerous other driving courses arranged by my employer all through the 1980s. I'm sure that one was called a Speed Awareness Course...!

They just want more money, they care not if you have taken training. Next thing will be they will load the premium for people who have taken the IAM Test...... Because they "make good progress"

Insurance companies always want more money so that they can pay the bonuses to the CEO who is already being paid £1million a year plus benefits and has a planned golden parachute package of £5million.

Despite all their publicity showing how they look after their clients they actually don't care about their clients and see them as an unending source of funds.
