Just the 83 miles to Hull today - pleasant A46 / A15 cruise. Now enjoying a beer on the ferry heading to Zeebrugge and on to the Black Forest.

Took the plus 8 to the Haynes breakfast meeting today. Great turnout but only my Morgan in attendance.

Spent a day at Gurston Down learning to hill climb in Tarka. School Day 11 runs up the hill: 2 in convoy with instructors 2 monitored with feedback, then 2 with more feedback then 4 assessed runs and a final "fun run" whilst the instructors scored the runs. Tarka is not the easiest car to drive as it has a slight abundance or power and the auto box requires a particular technique, even using the paddle shifts. The start, downhill at Gurston, is particularly interesting as the back und goes light and the car is apt to "fishtail" somewhat... I'm shattered, but was graded 73%. So on the way to a B licence. Seems that there are discussions about a new category for production cars, unmodified in any way. They will need no roll cage or racing belts, HANS device also not required. Simply an approved helmet and overalls. Why? aparently the latest round of additional safety requirements has seen people drop out in droves. Essentially all those who drove a 100% standard car that is also a daily drive were not prepared to pay the cost of all the additional gear. As one of the instructors put it, the straw that broke the camels back. IF this change comes to be then I'll be joining the hill climb world; emormous fun! Overall a reccomended day out, at £175 including lunch and refreshments. Something for a Talk Morgan special day next year, perhaps? We would need a minimum of 20.

Gurston is a challenging track to say the very least!
So well done and BTW that's the way to do it ..with an instructor. Not only for safety but to go faster sooner!

After years marshalling Prescott and watching on other Midland Hills, starting downhill just seems wrong! However, I have always enjoyed my few excursions to spectate rounds of SpeedMog when held at Gurston

After years marshalling Prescott and watching on other Midland Hills, starting downhill just seems wrong! However, I have always enjoyed my few excursions to spectate rounds of SpeedMog when held at Gurston It is weird...the Plus 8 is nose heavy anyway so a vigorous start results in the back end going light and without a lot of care, fishtailing... So start in first, quick change to second....
