I go along with Peter, But also remember many survive cancer as I know from one very close to home - so why wait till you die to send Cancer research some money - we have a standing order every month so not only do they get the cash now but when a breakthrough is announced on the news we can think" I`ve played a part in that.". Bear in mind that Cancer Research UK have 189 staff earning over £60,000 p.a. and their Chief Executive pockets up to £240,000 a year. I'd rather spend the money on fags.

I'm afraid I find your throwaway comment offensive. I'm not here to defend CEO's annual income, because I'd be happier if all charities worked for free, but that's simply impossible. I've just been looking through annual reports and Companies House records, and of the major charities, CR UK are comparable for costs it seems. You may choose to ignore the facts surrounding smoking, but don't be so crass in front of others who have suffered. It's very un-TM.. Cancer Research UK Annual Report

Most of the staff earning over £60000 are probably doctors and scientists working on cancer prevention and cures. Sounds like good value for money to me.

About five years ago I became involved in a charity project in a small remote village in Kenya. A team of us spent two weeks out there paying our own flights and contributing plenty of time and money of our own to the cause. As a follow up I went to a charities conference and found lots of small charities making lots of money for their "CEO"s who liked to view themselves as philanthropists but were no more (in my eyes) than fraudsters using the efforts of well meaning people to fill their own tables first, with whatever fell off the table going to the "cause". It's a moral dilemma if ever there was one. If you give, someone gets rich and someone gets hope; if you don't the fraudsters will find another way and the candle of hope is extinguished for someone. It's the good Samaritan story really. I still give but try to choose my charities to ensure the most goes to the cause.

Oh, here we go again. Don't you just love internet warriers trolling? I haven't got the energy to waste, so how about we all agree you're the better and funnier person, along with the most extensive brains and potentially the largest penis, and then we can all move on, eh?

I don't think Caroline would be too impressed either Steve.
Any contribution has to be better than cynicism and I'm sure we all do a little research into the various causes before hand.

As someone who is being kept alive by the ongoing work of Leukaemia Research (relating to the treatment regime of my rare blood cancer), was given pensions advice by MacMillan and is continuing to be supported by two smaller blood cancer charities. They may have failings, but for some of us, they are literally life savers.

Simon there are some wonderful big hearted people out there in this field Rowcroft and MacMillan are very close to our hearts too.

I was merely expressing my opinion and got called 'crass' and 'un-TM'. I'm sorry if you don't like it, but it is my opinion.
