I go along with Peter, But also remember many survive cancer as I know from one very close to home - so why wait till you die to send Cancer research some money - we have a standing order every month so not only do they get the cash now but when a breakthrough is announced on the news we can think" I`ve played a part in that.". Bear in mind that Cancer Research UK have 189 staff earning over £60,000 p.a. and their Chief Executive pockets up to £240,000 a year. I'd rather spend the money on fags. Twenty two years ago my father in law died of cancer weeks after the birth of my son and following his death I set up a small standing order to cancer research. Twenty one years later my son was diagnosed with cancer. I like to think that irrespective of the salaries of those employees, the small contribution that I and millions of others have provided has gone some way to keeping him and millions of others alive. It has been a good investment in my view. It is better to have 80% of something than 100% of nothing.

Thanks Roger, I'm sure he will be fine with things hopefully under control, we went for his twelve month scan this morning so fingers crossed. There are lots of people far worse off.
Cancer seems to be all over the place these days, a friend called me a couple of days ago to say he had been diagnosed and during the course of my job I speak about it most days.
When my father in law died it was quite rare to hear of it. I know nothing about the causes but I can only assume that it is the influences of our modern lifestyle (or at least they don't help).

I'm glad things seem to be under control for your son, nonetheless, it's still hard to take him going through it at such a young age. I saw last week that the go ahead has been given for a new state of the art major cancer care hospital in Liverpool. Great on the one hand but deeply disturbing that we need it. Unfortunately, more people than ever are dying of cancer, possibly because we're not dying of other causes that have been largely eliminated but still worrying.

Well said Richard.As someone who is being kept alive by the ongoing work of Leukaemia Research (relating to the treatment regime of my rare blood cancer), was given pensions advice by MacMillan and is continuing to be supported by two smaller blood cancer charities.
They may have failings, but for some of us, they are literally life savers. I will be going for my first dose of chemo on Friday for my newly diagnosed AML. If I heard correctly, I have to have 7 injections in 7 days to starrt with. I'll have to get a booster at least once a month for the duration of my life. Ho Hum!
