Another daft question maybe. When washing the bonnet or giving it a pre wash spray how much water will get in to and on the engine - is this a problem ? does it mean an engine clean on every car wash ? I am thinking the louvre 's could be a problem. Do any of you cover the engine before cleaning?
when all is said and done - there is more said than done .

I avoid hosing directly near the louvres.. Keeping the car clean and waxed makes it easier and I never use a jet wash either.
I know some cover the engine but with care I have never needed to.

I rarely use a hose on mine at all.... 2 buckets of hot water and a well laden sponge for cleaning and another for rinsing. I would also admit to never getting mine totally filthy either.

I just put a decorators plastic drop sheet over the engine and close the bonnet (using the clips to hold it in place). Works well enough...with the engine cold of course!

Spray from the front, make sure engine is cold, no point shocking hot exhausts.
Mine gets filthy humongous amount of bugs on it at the mo'
If worried about the engine bay a leaf blower works wonders you ideally would need bonnet stays though.
Do you drive your car in the wet? if not why not? where do you think rain and road spray goes?
It's just a car treat it like one and not some fragile toy.

Well said Mark these cars cope with hill climbs storms etc stop worrying and enjoy them!

But when driven the engine bay is warm (exhausts hot) so will aid evaporation etc. Not so when cold and being cleaned.
