I have a 1983 Morgan 4/4. I want to change the current switches for Lucas toggle switches. Has anybody got any suggestions how I rewire them? it is the light switch and the heater which may cause a problem, the hazard warning switch will be fitted under the dash, also has anybody fitted a Retro sound radio? (I bought one 3 years ago and still have not got round to fitting it) any suggestions will be most appreciated.

If you go to gomog.com they have the wiring diagram for your car.

To replace some of the switches you may need to use relays (and / or diodes) to effect the logic as the lucas switches have a limited selection of throws and ways.

You can get a retro dash mounted light switch from holdens.

Agree Holdens are probably best source of switches.

Here's a wiring diagram to connect hazard lights to a toggle switch.

As Clock said any switch that is not already on a relay if replaced with a toggle switch you will need to put a relay on the circuit, if you don't you will burn out the switch due to constant current running through it. The switch will activate the relay and then the relay puts current to what your switching on. Can't remember what your heater box is like under the dash of an 83 4/4 but MMC used to produce a radio mounting box to fit radios into under it.

Hope that helps a bit. cheers

I'm a big fan of Holdens, and I sourced some Lucas toggle switches from them a couple of years ago when I replaced the old rocker switches in my dash.

Unfortunately the quality of them was really very shoddy indeed. Not Holden's fault, I suspect they were made in the far east somewhere. A couple of them fell apart before I even got them installed.

So I bought a set of their professional sealed toggle switches instead, which are lovely bits of kit.

Try these people too.
www.caigauge.com
They took over Smiths when they closed their Ystradgynlais factory (Swansea Valley).
Not sure if the actually do switches but worth knowing about them anyway.
They make stuff for Morgan.

Looking forward to se the change, especially after fitting the radio and speakers. I could be inspired (got a 4/4 from 1984) ;-)

thanks for the advice re my morgan 4/4, however, I bought the Lucas toggle switches from Newark auto-jumble about 4 years ago and I'm just getting round to replace the current switches. I am putting the original dashboard back (fed up with wood) having bought a centre panel from Melvyn about 5 years ago.(things move at a slower pace in Liverpool) The problem I have is the heater and light switches, which wire goes where? the back of the switch has 6 spade terminals and there are 3 wires coming from the loom. the heater is 2 speed. Do I need to put a relay between the loom and the switch? The Retro Sound radio I will fit in the dash.As before any suggestions will be most appreciated.
