Excuse maybe another 'daft' question. The car has a battery meter also a light with a pic of a battery on it. What is the purpose of the light - does it duplicate any function of the meter?
sorry should have said its 1991 4/4 cvh engine 1.6

That would be the ignition light. It will light up when the key is turned to the first position and go out when the car starts, unless your alternator is not charging.
1993 T16 +4 Lancia Blue.

I would have thought Allon White would have checked this out for you before you took delivery. I called in there briefly last Monday morning en route to two wonderful Morganeering days in north Norfolk. Your car looked great sitting there in the sunlight

I don't think that the OP is saying that it is staying on, he is just asking if it serves the same purpose as the amp meter. The answer is that the warning light tells you if the battery is charging or not, the amp meter tells you by how much it is charging or not.

Yes gambalunga is correct just asking the purpose. car is a delight - just want to know as much as possible about it.

Talking of batteries......I noticed two Plus 4s today in the chassis shop with batteries on the drivers side....not in the usual position!

Really should be an alternator that symbol or have text above battery saying not charging.
But I guess for some reason lost in time the battery symbol was the one they thought less confusing
