Given the mileage on my car I would like to think that the jaguar starter fitted on mine would last longer in the brush department!

I added extra heat shielding to mine it made no difference.

I thought to change the battery first as it's a much cheaper option than a new starter. Battery arrived today and out of the box it was at 13.2V as opposed to the banner that after charging on the ctek was only at 12.6V this morning it'll be interesting to see what it's at in a few days time as it is out of the mog.

May fit new battery tonight when I get home after work if the missus is hogging the TV wink

OOOPS

Fitted new battery now starter doesn't turn the solenoid clunks but no Whizzy

What is the fuse block near the battery +ve is that a direct feed to the starter motor rather than the solenoid?

I wonder if I have disturbed the connections in the block - pretty sure I put the fuse back in properly? everything else appears to work.

Also the oil pressure gauge swings from one end to another while turning the ignition key.

Have to go to work no so no further time to play.

I have looked at the Roadster wiring harness diagrams but not clear on there as to how the starter is actually wired as a system diagram rather than a mechanical layout for a loom.

Got home from work - Scratched head decided to simplify things.

Using some 2" x 1" x 36" rough cut pine and a big rubber mallet

I gave the starter a good old fashioned WHACK!

Now starting again - starter turns the engine over much quicker on the new battery too, which is a relief!

New battery has had no reluctance to turn the starter rapidly when the engine was 30 odd miles warm whereas before it has. I'll keep a beady eye on it and I will see how long it is before I need to put it back on the conditioner also.

Definately helped by the New battery - I deliberately made several stops with a hot engine and no trouble at all starting hot now (so far) I did wonder if alternator or lighting circuitry the other night was playing up as I noticed the odd flicker which at first I thought was undulation induced maybe the battery was having some funnies under charge?

Mark,

how old was the original battery?

The Banner battery on Tarka sits on the scuttle, so probably gets hotter than under the rear axle...but at this point it spins the big V8 without any issue.

Old as the car I guess, but given the fact that one year it did little more miles than have its service I guess it was a neglected item it didn't start when left at Williams the once for a few days they had to wake up the battery.
