The relay I am now thinking may be bad is the multi-function relay module (part YWB100820L) as it not only controls the pump but powers the ECU. I am not sure, but I don't think the above relay is part of my car's system.

I hope you manage to find one quickly maybe it is a Land Rover part utilising the same engine/ECU unit as yours.

I had a similar problem on my 1999 +8 this was eventually traced to the immobiliser, I'm unsure if your car will have the same Lucas set up , there are 2 Magic boxes one is operated by the key fob buttons, the other is operated by the key chip, the one operated by the key chip switches the starter , fuel pump , ignition & ECU. Its commonly known as the Spider unit and this unit is prone to dry soldered joints so you can end up with the the thing functioning on most of the switching but possibly failing on just one of them.

Unfortunately they are no longer available, however if you go to the major Landrover suppliers you will find there is a replacement jumper plug ( approx £8) which you use to
A) Use to see if it alleviates the problem
B) As I have done use it as a permanent replacement as you still have the Fob operated immobiliser

Obtained a brand-new multi-function relay and installed it. Same as before: no fuel pump with ignition, and still unable to comunicate with the ECU. Engine spins nicely but it still doesn't start. Clearly not an issue with the relay. So, is the ECU dead? Lack of pump (and seems spark, too) with an inability to address the ECU would seem to imply it isn't working. Anything else to check?

Any chance it might be a faulty ignition module relay?

Looking at the GEMS manual I don't see an amplifier as part of the system... Where is it located, and, how would I check it?

Have you tried using some quick start? - remove air filter squirt in throttle inlet while engine is turned over.

It would let you definitely know if just fuel delivery if it started.

Not sure but I don't think Gems has a Distributor nor an amplifier.

The Hotwire system (prior) did have an Dizzy and a amplifier.

The 4.0 (Gems) does not.

Don't take My word for this. Check it out. But I do have a Gems EFI on the shelf. No amplifier. Or at least I can't find it.

Fred D. Are You a US'er? Sounds like You need somebody that understands or can recommend somebody who does understand a GEMS/Morgan EFI. Larry Eckler (Morgan Spares) in the East. Bill Fink (ISIS) in the West and Norb near Chicago. For a starter.

I use a Edelbrock Carb because I do not understand EFI.
