Hi All,

My first post here so I’ll start with a small introduction…

I’m Lee and I’m after a Morgan Aeromax or Supersports.

Historically, I’ve owned a long list of cars from various TVRs, ending up with a Sagaris, Ferrari 360 Spider, Audi R8, Lamborghini Diablo and lastly a Mercedes SLS AMG gullwing which I sold a few weeks ago. Now I’m after a new toy (possibly a keeper) purely for sunny days and some “spirited” Sunday morning runs. Whatever I get, it has to be beautiful, reasonably quick, rare and above all have a sense of occasion which I’ve found to be largely missing in my cars since I left the TVR fold – hence the idea of trying a Mog.

I’ve seen an Aeromax for sale – #102. My research suggests this was the car which was built for David to replace #38. David sadly passed away shortly afterwards and the car ended up in the hands of another forum member JamesP. It would appear that James has now sold the car and it’s looking for a new custodian.

Does anyone know the car or car tell me anything about it please? I was slightly confused as it’s advertised as having a 4.4 V8 but I thought all Aeromax’s were 4.8?

Are there many differences under the skin to the Aeromax and Supersports? Is one more sought after than the other?

As for price, I thought £127k to be a little overpriced. Usually there are other cars to compare prices but with the Aeromax being so rare, I can’t find anything for comparison. Any view please? Is the car likely to drop in price as the rest of the high end sports / classic / supercar market is starting to?

Is anyone looking at selling an Aeromax / Supersports in the near future?

I’m a complete novice with Morgans – any pointers would be gratefully appreciated.

I'd suggest reading all the Aero threads....

Don't overlook the Plus 8 on the Aero Chassis...an Aero underneath but a slightly different experience as the weight at the back is less.

Every Morgan is slightly different and production evolves, but in theory any of the cars with the 4.8L BMW motor should be much the same. So the Aero S4 was followed by the Max and then the Supersports, now the new S5. The S5 has a major change to the front and rear suspension.

All the Aero based cars are rare...even the S1 Aero 8 from 2002 will fetch between £35,000 and £40,000 so depreciation is glacial, if it is really there. "High" milage cars seem to be discounted a bit... High in Morgan terms is more than 5,000 a year.

You don't say where you live: my advice is to go to the factory and take a tour: one of the forum members is a guide and I'm sure he will help you understand the product better.

Final comment: as the cars are hand built and effectively bespoke everyone feels different. So drive as many as possible before making a choice.

MMC (factory) have a very nice Aeromax for sale. Its the ex charles morgan car and its prity much in as new condition.

I took a factory tour last year and that's how I became hooked on Morgan ownership. I recently spoke to the factory and asked about the possibility of a new Aero but with a supersport body as I adore the boat tail rear end. It could be done but circa £400k cost involved!!!!

It has to be an Aeromax or Supersport purely for the looks. My main concern is lack of power compared what I've been used to, although the idea of going for a drive without fear of loosing my liscene does have its appeal!

I just need to find the right car...

Well... 367bhp in less than 1200kg is not a bad power to weight ratio...
Yes some modern supercars have more power, in some cases much more power, but they are also heavy. For example the outgoing R8 V8 is almost 1550kg. So to have the same power to weight as an Aero it would need 474 bhp..which it doesn't have!!

Yes, it is very easy to go "rather fast" in an Aero based car...

Based on my monitoring of the Swiss market - prices are only going 1 way - there have been 3 Maxes this year - 2 sold - up at 180-190k CHF - so around the £120k mark. My feeling that is "their" price point this year - with them going up again next year. Supersports don't hit the market so frequently - I only know of one other sold after I bought mine - selling around 20% higher than mine.

IMHO the looks of the Max and SS will mean it will continue to trade above the original Aeros and do make the car feel a lot more special. You are mobile art when out and about and you get a huge amount of positive attention - and with limited numbers rarity is a plus.

I gelled with mine straight away - the handling is "unusual" in that the lack of ARBs mean increased roll but fantastic composure. The car never feels anything less than properly rapid - not quite 599 quick - but 300ps/1000kg is never going to be sluggish. The driving experience is far more connected and organic though - so you need to make sure drive in an analogue rather than digital manner.
