I have a 2014 plus 4 with the duratec engine. on stopping the engine and switching off ,the flashing red light of the immobiliser starts flashing on the dashboard. Problem is if the car is not started and run within three days the light goes off and the battery is dead! What if anything am I doing wrong?

Nothing, the red warning light is supposed to flash when the car is immobilised, it's an anti theft deterrent.
3 days is a bit weak for a battery to hold charge, 2 weeks is not uncommon so your battery may be tired. Is anything else on? Radio, or SatNav left connected?
The cars really are best left on a battery conditioner, something like an Optimate or Ctek both are popular and simply plug in to the cigarette lighter in your glovebox, assuming your garage has mains electricity of course.
Both are 'float' chargers and so can be left connected for long periods of time.
All the best and welcome.

Mine withthe original 2012 battery is ok after nearly 2 weeks. If I need to leave it longer than a week or so I always connect the battery conditioner.
For me you have a dodgy battery. Perhaps it has been allowed to go flat too often: batteries deteriorate quickly if they are allowed to go completely flat.
If not that you have something somewhere that is putting a drain on the battery.

I'd agree with that Peter!

+1, sounds like the battery or it is draining somehow. Clock or map light?

As a matter of interest is there any fire risk with leaving a car in the garage with a battery conditioner on? I suppose that is what they are designed for but just wondered.

There is always a fire risk. The CTEK I use is on a earth leakage detection circuit & the lead on the car to the battery has a 5 amp fuse in case of a short.
I once had a Triumph Spitfire and a previous owner wired in an under dash light without a fuse. It shorted & that was impressive. Luckily nothing else failed or caught fire.

Must be either a weak battery or something draining it...I leave my Plus four up to three weeks at a time during the winter and it always starts first time!

Disconnect the battery and charge for 24 hrs check the voltage after 3 days anything below 13 v is suspect 12.8 is a definite change battery. If the battery is not losing charge reconnect and put a meter in line set on milliamperes see what the leak is, anything more than a few milliamps you have a leakage. Disconnect all the auxiliary units like alternator, starter etc one at a time until you isolate the offending component. Oh and don't forget to check alternator output should be about 14.2 at 2000 revs.

My immobiliser light on my 2011 4/4 is under the dash on the passengers side, I only spotted it because i saw it's reflection on the stainless chassis cover one night in the garage. Is that a normal spot for back then, I assumed they hid it to maintain the retro look?
