Methinks they could not connect it up. Would need a length of fibre optic & some form of connection. Time money etc.

Someone once said that there was a series of 4/4 wiring looms that had the wire too short so rather than extend it they just left it hanging behind the dash.

John,
My 4/4 has an aftermarket immobiliser (According to Aus. Standards) fitted and the light is under the dash on the right. Guess it is just a convenient spot.
PS Nothing arrived as yet.

It really sounds that the battery needs to be replaced. In order to avoid a flat battery I have installed a battery switch. This works excellently. So even if I do not use the car for two month the battery still keeps its power. And as a nice side effect it is a very efficient anti theft measure...

Be careful if the car already has such a switch some circuits by pass it like the clock & power to the ECU. ECUs can loose their settings if power is removed. Juuuuuuuust remove the plywood parcel shelf & you can se if it is bypased

But thanks for your comment. I will check whether or not it is bypassed.

I once had a Triumph Spitfire and a previous owner wired in an under dash light without a fuse. It shorted & that was impressive. Luckily nothing else failed or caught fire.
Old story time..and thread drift alert... I had a convertible Herald 13/60 in my yoof and driving home one evening had the under dash wires drop down from behind the home fitted radio. I leant over at 50mph and used my left hand to tuck them back up & started off what looked like bonfire night..! Lesson learnt...fuses are cheap.

ECU should not loose anything but trim values that'll be relearned once you drive it again.
