Does anyone have some advice on adjusting the fuel tank sending unit to register empty with empty tank...would rather fix a functioning but out of adjustment unit vice buying a new sending unit...ideas?

Is your voltage regulator OK? Worth a quick check first.

Hello Neal

If your gauge reads high across the entire range you may be able to re-calibrate it with a resistor? See here. The resistor doesn’t have to be on the gauge it could be attached to the sender.

Tempted to say 'they all do that sir'....but maybe they don't, however, my old 4/4 did as I first found out to my cost with a lengthy push required.

In addition to the above two alternative approaches.
Take the sender unit out of the car, clean the wiper and bend the float arm up or down so it reads more according to your wishes.
Go to the web and look up Spiyda Electronics, they make a box of tricks that sits between the sender and the gauge that allows you to redefine full, half and empty.

I think it's the goblin in the petrol tank that's to blame. He gets bored, so for devilment he holds the float up to the quarter level then let's it drop just as the last trickle is being sucked up by the pump.

I always fill up as soon as it gets down to a quarter now.

Cheers.

Isn't it the ELF in the tank?

Have you tried different motion potion? Perhaps the current type is not compatible with your gauge?
