I think I read some where on TM that someone had packed thier grease gun for a European tour. What's the consensus gentlemen, surely our steeds are capable of a couple of weeks in Europe covering about 3k miles without attention to the knee joints My opinion (after 10 trips to Europe in my 4/4) is the intervals for greasing depends on conditions. Dusty or wet conditions require more frequent attention. I would always re-grease after a very wet drive. I also carry a small can of motorcycle chain-lube for the rear springs and a tube of copper-slip for the steering damper blades. OCD? I don't think so, as Stanley is close to 40,000 miles and still on original (and good condition) kingpins

My car has Devol bushes so can handle 5K supposedly. I just tested in UK 2 k & it was fine. Otherwise 1 k for me.
I will resist comments about Mr Strides ability to pump.

I recently dis assembled a 2000 +8 with about 50,000 miles. Morgan owned by a Lady who lives in Sun Valley, Idaho. Her mechanic maintains the +8 and greases prior to any trips She takes. She will often ship Her Morgan to the location She will tour in and ship it back home. She never, ever greased the King Pins while on a trip. Her trips are sometimes a month long. These were mild steel king pins and bronze bushes. There was so little wear that I merely swapped the bottom bush for the top and reassembled. NO Gaiters.

I have been greasing my kingpins before and after every long trip. I have had trips as long as 4,000km without greasing the kingpins. The original factory bushes and kingpins needed to be replaced at 45,000km, somewhat to my surprise.
I now have hard chromed kingpins and hope that they will last a bit longer.

I wouldn't consider greasing kingpins when out on a tour. Like Peter I do them before we set off and when we get back. The acid test is how long the new car pins last because I inherited the previous two without knowing kingpin history.
