Blimey, looks like theres a gap in the market for a Morgan Valeting Service !
Anyway, update on my situation, all parts ordered to convert to front bumper, already had a set of Cibie Tangos ready but was always a bit concerned about the mounting plates for the wings so held off until the bumper situation was sorted and I can now mount them on the new bumper bkts and not drill any holes in those precious alloy wings..............Meanwhile the alloy wheel hunt continues ............ Watch this space.

I have seen the Minilite-Replicas and Wolfraces. Both don't look right to me in the alloy colour. A friend who bought Wolfraces in the eighties for the reason I mentioned in my earlier post painted them black and this was much better. He would have preferred Dunlop centre lock alloys like on Jaguar C's and D's but they were not available for the Morgan hubs.

It could perhaps also be possible to put centre locks in standard +8 alloys. We once planned to do this with normal steel wheels for an older 4/4 and MWS (Motor Wheel Services) were quite helpful. The project came to naught for other reasons. If I were in your place I would ask them what they can do.

Also bear in mind that you need to watch the offset. If the alloys have less offset, you might find that the wings look 'too wide'.

DaveW is correct, I have already been told that offset on standard wheels means they won't fit the wings. Frank, I have found a company making replica Jag centre locks in alloy as opposed to the original steel and they do make ones to fit Morgans. Two points though, they are very expensive and still not sure they would look right. I did have a set of Wolfrace alloys on a TR6 that I used to have and they looked great but on a Morgan I think they would look a bit like flares on your gran.

And, just to ensure & support you... i am a centre-lock-alloy´s fan too! The latest 16" version look very neat & perform a LOT better on Racetrack... although mine has wires & am lucky with them up to now..

So IF you ever should get your hands on more 16" alloys than you need yourself i´d be VERY thankful if you give me a call, as i´m heading for a set of 4 to have an alternative for trackdays & for my several "moods" in taste...!

The centre lock wheel used a high pressure casting technique to ensure that the Alloy around the spline is "a lot" stronger and able to deal with the torque.... most other manufacturers put a steel mounting plate into the centre of the wheel which makes them heavier.

So subsequently hard to re-manufacture without issues...

It would almost be cheaper to have a batch of hubs made up to carry modern centre lock wheels then you can run Magnesium versions as well.... or if you have the 5 stud +8 hubs (I realise you already have spline drive) then you can easily obtain a peg drive conversion similar to those run on GT or TOCA cars.... cheaper and many many veriants available.... take a look at the +8 racer "big Blue" which "I think used this mounting technique"....

I agree with you, wires are heavy, a pain to clean and hard to get balanced properly.

+8's look much better on alloys

I think your best option it to get hold of some +8/Roadster 5 stud hubs and then you have the choice of standard alloys or going to someone like Image Wheels wheels if you fancy something a bit flash.

If you put an add in the club magazine I'm sure you would find a set of hubs going spare or may even find someone that would swap for your wheels and hubs, you would just need to find a dealer to swap them over for you.

Jim, I think you're right, change the hubs and open up my options. The Libra Motive car looks nice on that site. There are lots of knock on wheel options for Cobra's but I think they might look a bit OTT on a Morgan even if you could get a style to fit though I am partial to the three eared spinners. It not easy getting the right look and I'm not going to rush into a non OE option for the sake it.
