I wouldn't consider greasing kingpins when out on a tour. Like Peter I do them before we set off and when we get back. What sort of mileages are you doing on tour? I did 3400 miles just (mostly over back roads) and I wouldn't have peace of mind if I didn't do them for that distance.

I have never greased the suspension whilst on holiday, always before and after. Longest trip was 2500 miles and the original standard fit kingpins lasted 34,000 miles on my last car with hard chrome replacements that should last longer. Only done 12,000 miles on my current car so who knows how long they will last. I would think, but don't know, that if you use the car regularly the kingpins are lubricated adequately but leave the car for weeks or months without a decent run and you are going to have problems.

On a recent 3,500 mile trip to Venice and back from South WEst Uk we greased the pins five times and then again on returning to UK. The steering benefits enormously - lighter and much sweeter to drive. Recommend this type of grease. Grease to use

Can you mix it with the existing grease or do you need to pump it in until all the old stuff is pumped out?

I have been using Red n'Tacky grease a short while, it seems fine, the only downside is that the Tub does not have the usual centre filling plate with the hole, that makes it messy to fill up the gun. I have resorted to spooning it in with a steel ruler, but its hard to get a full gun load. I might buy the cartridges next time.

Try spooning it in with a spoon? Wait until there are no 's around and clean up well.

Make a small ladle? Will an aerosol can top fit? A small-ish funnel to pour from your ladle? That is assuming it is not too viscous! How about some kind of icing bag? Works with thick cream etc for cooks.
