Well I've finally got through all my brake service, sorted getting the rear drums off and cleaning them.
But
my front offside brake caliper has a sticky piston. ( inner). I stripped and replaced seals but still sticking.
can anybody tell me what the calipers are. It's quicker to replace them and be done. 1986 CALIPERS have had there day.
pic below.
They look mgb to me?

Yes uncle melvin does them but at a cost. Must be cheaper somewhere on the net. If I knew the code for them !

I think they're Triumph, something like a TR4.

When I did my +8 brakes, I sent them for refurbish to a company in Chelford Cheshire who made a fantastic job and cheaper than new.

Turnround was just over a week as they strip them and send them to someone in Stoke for plating before reassembly.

Took the opportunity to fit stainless braided flexis whist I was at it.

Hi

Chelford firm is Classicar Automotive. Fantastic service for calipers and master cylinders

They were able to offer an exchange service for the calipers on my 4/4 so just turned up with them and came away with a new recon pair for the cost of reconditioning the old ones

Your calipers are Girling Type 14's Plus 8 and TR4's are Type 16

Now, just look at this. Although thankfully I am not in need of this info., isn't it fantastic the depth of knowledge within our community and how it's given so easily and quickly.

Here for a good time not a long time!!

Morgan used Ford Cortina calipers in the 60's and 70's, don't know if yours are different. Brake Engineering in Wrexham used to do recon exchange calipers but not sure if they still do as part of TRW now I think .

Taffmog

Type 14's were fitted to most Ford's in 60's & 70's - Cappri, Escort 1 & 2 as well as Lotus Elans, Dollops of Shite and others

Brake Engineering have disposed of most of the older car parts now. Used to get lots of stuff from a fellow rallyist when he worked there and he said its all been disposed off!

Won't fit a 4/4 though as the distance between mounting ears is different. M16 is a Type 16 caliper with metric threads.

Besides some of the cheaper replacement calipers on the market leave a lot to be desired so I prefer recon to cheap replacement!
