Its even better from the navigators seat!!!

The "best" off I ever had was on the PK Road Rally in North Wales when I was navigating for a lad called Chris Farrell in a 1400 Honda Civic.

It was just breaking dawn and the selective used a muddy track above Cerrig near Bala and then down across a field with a 90 left at the bottom to go through a gate and then into a control

Alas a combination of clogged tyres (after the e-marked tyres rule banned Yoko 35's), a heavy dew and a little bit of tiredness meant that we did not take off enough speed make the turn. Chris to his credit did not panic... he just said "Aw s**t, here it comes....We then went through a barbed wire fence, down a 25ft drop, through a dry stone wall, took out a healthy pine tree and came to rest on all four wheels. Chris then said "Well that was rather exciting, would you mind opening that gate". Snicked it into gear and drove up to a field gate, went through it and into the control and handed my time cards to a shocked marshal. Funny thing was, never dropped a second on that selective.

I went back to see the farmer the next day with a couple of rolls of fencing wire to make good the damage and a chainsaw to cut the tree up for him. I asked him about repairing the wall and he said "its alright lad, I always wanted a gate there!

Love some of the comments in the background as much as some of the skill (and bravery) on show.

I had 4 friends were used to go rallying in 2 Rover 25s. I was once offered a seat in one due to an illness of a navigator, but I refused. I didn't mind spectating or fixing up the cars, but being in one? No chance.

Great footage there. The best control I ever saw was on a frosty night at Croft around 1995/6 when the Lombard did a stint on track. Unbelievable.

Amazing footage; I am still recovering from the shock. crazy2
Rallying was never like that when I was young...the car you used for rallying was also your daily car.
Thank goodness for decent FIA roll cages, and side protection bars.

Years ago I had business connections in Finland and went to the 'Thousand Lakes Rally' (now called Rally Finland) three years on the trot in the days of Burns and Mcrae. Trooping through a pine forest early morning to get the best spot, often with only a tree stump for protection, cars speeding past, often on two wheels, just inches from where you were standing. Very exciting but lord we had some close calls.

At last year's Carfest south I was taken up their hill by 2x British Rally Champion Russell Brookes, in an Ascona 400... you'd never quite believe that this "little old man" could make a car dance as he did.

A real gentleman - as we were amongst the first up the hill we had 45 minutes sitting together in the car, chatting with a hero from my teenage years, who I saw racing the same type of car in the Trossachs Rally.
