Peter, I knew of, and completely understood these requirements of the MSA; it is nothing new to me although others may benefit from your point.

But quite frankly, isn't it a nonsense and an irrelevance? Somewhere, the lawyers, insurers and actuaries decided, with a sharp intake of breath, that there was a liability and therefore more regulation was necessary.

Take the Child Protection Officer. Essentially that role is to tick some boxes. I will not denigrate the officers who fulfil the role, particularly as I know one of them well. However is it really necessary? Or are Morgan owners so particularly degenerate and dangerous.

When I started driving in speed events in the early 1980s, all one needed to satisfy the RAC MSA for a road car was a helmet of a partular BS specification; no fireproof babygrow, gloves or boots. Now, the MSA makes much more stringent demands within the Blue Book beyond helmets, suit, gloves and boots. The net result is that it increases the cost of entry of grassroots motorsport.

It is this unavoidable dead hand of regulation that puts off a number of people from volunteering. It is also a waste.

There are significant similarities between the MSCC committee environment. and the one I experienced over the years as a school governor.

It's a similar starting point in that lots of volunteers are involved, so attendance is 'voluntary' and participation in many cases is 'voluntary'.

From that must come a working group with sub committees, and the whole thing must hang together, despite the usual tensions and alliances which exist in committees.

The MSCC works very well, but its rarely plain sailing.

By the way, I have the greatest of respect for the MSCC's officers and centre secretaries. They put a lot of effort in to run some stunning events and run the club on a day-to-day basis.

There may be things that are a bit wrong but there are an awful of things that are right. That reminds be of a quote written by a journo about the Plus Eight. Now there's a coincidence!

Trouble is, with committees and sub committees, everything real gets forgotten.
In August 2015 I questioned the need for such a large reserve for "uninsured liabilities" (I was still a member at the time) and wrote an email to a leading member of committee. He replied that he more or less agreed with me and would take it to the next committee meeting, find out more and get back to me. One year later.....no news..........
Treacle, through, wading...these words spring to mind.

The lack of response was part of my decision not to renew after many years membership. Dave, you say get involved but I remember when a phone call would get a response in a day or two. Now, attempting to get involved brings one to the brick wall.
Which is why this site, a loose affiliation of like minded (or at least similarly enthusiastic) people is SO BRILLIANT.
Mre respect to Simon et al.

As an ex-Officer of our Local Club, I must say it is very difficult to keep things in perspective. Particularly difficult to change the Club as needed to stay with changing demographics, and age of Members. The "Talent Pool is Very Shallow".
