At LeMans 50th celebration I by chance met a "Past Chairman" of MSCC. I immediately suggested MSCC was not supporting North America very well. "What do You want from MSCC?" was His reply. Well ah, ah, ah! I am still contemplating His question.

I may not be remembering this accurately but many years ago the MGCC directors spent a lot of money trying to get established in the USA and it failed dismally.

Button,

the threat of liability litigation and, more to the point, the US Tax "global grab" rules on entities that have a US subsidiary or affiliate make the USA a "no go zone" for many UK organisations, including MSCC.

Sorry and that, but unless and until the US stops trying to take money from anyone or any entity that has a link to the USA it will not change.

We have a US Citizen who is the partner of a LogMog member. She is considering renouncing her US nationality because it costs her so much in Accountancy fees and time.

This may just be me, but I was always under the impression that 'Strategic Reviews' were for the boardroom and those who steer the organisation. Whilst it's nice to be open and transparent, it does make me weary to keep reading such wordy and business like tomes in a hobby magazine.

There does come a time when all the Club does is argue with itself in the quest for doing something everyone agrees upon which, to be honest, may ultimately be something that no-one agrees upon but happens anyway..! And so it continues..

I have the utmost respect for those who steer this particular ship, it's a thankless task & the vast majority of the membership don't care unless it affects them either in the wallet or not being able to do some event they've always done since Peter Morgan blah blah..

The single word I find is missing within all of Miscellany is fun. Would a stranger read it & feel it's something for them?

That's the only test for me, I'm afraid.

Steve, a very valid point.

The reason for the tranparency now was the relentless moaning from the armchair members that the NCM acted in isolation and they wanted to know what was going on.

So now you get far more detail than is probably necessary.

I am a long standing member of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Association. There is a magazine, I think it's three times a year, and a periodic newsletter of four or six sides of A4.
But all the nitty gritty business stuff is separated from this, arrives separately and can be directed straight in the bin.

I do not doubt that. But as I can't answer the "Past Chairman's" question, I have posed it to many others (U.S.) who seem to care about the MSCC. Still I do not have an answer.

There is no doubt that the U.S. has become the most litigious nation in the world. I would not do business with the U.S. either if I did not live here.

I agree with Stewart. For 40lbs why not just enjoy what You can. If You feel like criticizing than volunteer to fix it. Other wise just enjoy.
