I just noticed something weird this evening whilst cleaning the car after 1700 miles in a week without issue!

If I turn the hazard lights on without any keys in the ignition the they flash as normal but the fuel pump energises, dash lights come on and if I press the starter button it fires up without any keys.

I'm sure it didn't used to do this, has anyone else come across this?

I had to go and try that, mine does not exhibit that phenomena.

Given that the oil pressure warning light illuminates with hazard warning lights on and engine off (a well reported issue), I'm not too surprised.

An unintended secondary electrical path is being brought into play.

Dab
Mine was exactly the same from new. From what I can remember and to cut a long story short, The factory had to change the hazard wiring to get the warning light to work in instrument panel. This meant the ECU had to be powered, this powers the fuel pump, the instruments..blah blah.. Most people would never know. . Of course, they may have been fobbing me off with complete Jackson Pollocks but they corrected it during the first service. I know they phoned the factory so they are aware (probably)

Funnily (??) enough I have had a gremlin running amok in my wiring this last week.
First noticed when driving and the dash went dead, no indicators but engine and lights etc running fine

AA man checked fuses and nos 9 an 10 were blown
These relate to indicators, instruments and mode selector button
Subsequently put in new fuses and all well for a few days , then bingo , same thing

Whilst fiddling and twitching wires to see if any chaffing I discovered that replacing either fuse 9 or 10 brought back full function !!! Seems the fuses don't have separate circuits??

Had a auto electrician acquaintance have a look and we managed to blow same fuses whilst stationary in garage. But for no obvious reason we could see!
Now seem to have blown the brakes too. Have got car stripped out so can follow all the wires. Absolutely nothing obvious to be seen.

Car is April 2012, so wonder if the anomalies mentioned above might have something to do with it !!!

Will try to call factory, but being in NZ makes it less easy, especially if there is no prior personal contact to call.

I think there may have been some confusion at the factory when these changes were introduced and some cars left with this 'feature'. The issue as Dab describes is likely to go unnoticed for some time. It's not until you have the engine and hazards on and remove the key that you realise there is an issue. i think it is unrelated to any fuses blowing. There are probably more cars out there the same and the owners are blissfully unaware.
There was a thread on this issue last year.

Just got home from work and was intrigued to try the hazard lights with key off.
Well , turn ignition key off. Turn hazards on.
Everything lights up, fuel pump on.

How quaint.

Maybe MMC are venturing into the world of 'keyless ignition'.....
