The LS7 would be great but if they were to keep a V8 perhaps they may be more likely to go with the new Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 given the relationship that already exists with Ford. Not sure how future-proof this option would be.

Isn't the new TVR using the new Cosworth V8?

Yes but you have to be careful of the final price. A crate engine from Ford (new small block V8 with high tune) with type approval is going to be a fair bit cheaper than all of these beautiful McLaren and Cosworth engines.

As we have seen with the Supersports and Coupe going above the £100k mark this makes the car a very different sales proposition. At 80k you are going to forgive some "tweaks" but if you added 15k for the engine alone it makes the competitor landscape and customer requirement a different kettle of fish.

I would love a long nose Aeromax with one of the AMG V12 65 engines as this sound would be ultra retro/smooth/GT in the manner of some of those Retromobile cars and the Bentley Blue Train. Never going to happen (unless a certain wonderful swiss gents has a good year perhaps) but what a car that would be.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Another problem with "crate engines" is that the ECUs require inputs from multiple sensors or devices. The days of simple cars died with the Rover V8, I feel.

As cars get more like computers this need gets ever more difficult to manage: Simon mentioned that the Jaguar V8 needs inputs from many, many things, including the steering pump, I guess because as the load increases the engine has to respond. If it isn't a Jaguar steering pump it won't play.

This need for support may be why MMC seems to be getting further and further into bed with BMW.

I had a Cobra replica fitted with a supercharged jag v8 running an Emerald ECU and a manual gearbox. Fabulous engine. 420 bhp and brutally fast in a lightweight car.

Had to sell it to buy the Aero, but the dealer I sold it to put 15K on the price and now has it on eBay here

That looks lovely.... I have driven a Cobra (once) it was moderately terrifying and therefore remember little about it! Beautiful car.

How long did you own if for?
