Hey there smile
I just discovered, my Motor Heat Cover is completely loose.
Wanted to tighten the screw, but my metric hex key does not fit.
Will I need an inch key - or even imperial key?
If yes, what size?

And does the black paint on your cover also "break off"?
I thought this was just some whatever black plastic material.
But I seems to be lexan, with black paint?

Presume you mean the urban cooling kit cover?
This is attached with 4 setscrews to the fan itself, as to the 2 setscrews which fasten it to the engine I have no idea! I have a full set of Torx, star drives etc and nothing fits properly although some do fit well enough to do and undo. Must be a weird American fitting I suppose! The standard cover looks like a hard fibreglass of some sort, really ugly with a finish that won't polish up at all. MMC simply spray them with black gloss so if yours is peeling off I would suggest simply respraying with a rattle can (?). Keep us informed!

Hi Pete
The engine is using inch keys. I bought a set of inch inbus keys to address this topic. The shroud itself is just fixed by the two big screws on top.
Best regards
Kurt

exactly. its peeling/breaking off around the screw holes. the cover itself, without the glossy finish looks like lexan, the material that is also being used for (kitchen-) spatulas.

thanks kurt.
I ll get some of those tools then!
btw, comet gets its first service tomorrow smile

I believe most of the engine related stuff is SAE and the rest of the car is a mixture of metric and SAE. Good exercise running back and forth for tools. When working on the car I have an old cookie tin I fill with tools.
