Don't know how, but my bike was just as bad. The dealer was able to correct it in re reflashing the ECU

That could be an ECU tweak if it wasn't locked. My speedo seems to read 8 - 10% high throughout the range. Ironically the odometer (distance recording) seems spot on though.

A bit of drift from fuel contents indication, but I don't think that the speedometer indication error can be corrected from the ECU, even if it wasn't locked. The S&S manual says that the speed sensor signal (from the front wheel on the M3W) is routed first to the speedometer and then the speedometer creates a signal that is sent to the ECU. The adjustment that can be done for unlocked ECU calibration only changes the speed sensor information that the ECU uses and records. There is a speedometer calibrator as it mentions using PN5S-1070 for HD speedometers. Is there an equivalent for the M3W's VDO one? Some VDO speedometers have a calibration menu in the display but not this one.

MMC don't seem to know, or be interested in how to correct this error that seems to be standard on all M3W's. When my car was still in warranty I mentioned it and was told they had checked the speed sensor and loom, all was good and it was within the allowable speedo error of 10% over. As the speedometer over reads by an annoying 8% and I always assumed the odometer did as well but I have not checked it.

Taking Planenuts thread drift a smidge further ....
My normally sensible speedo started doing silly things , reading true speed then randomly shooting up to max speed then min speed etc.
Turned out to be a corroded connector in the totaly exposed electrical connector by the speed sensor on the front offside wheel ( UK ). This was causing false readings. Fix was to strip off the old connector and fit new, except with weathproof rubber boot to make it waterproof.

So there is a speed sensor at the wheel?

Yes, front RH side. That's what the wire loom is for on the front hub upright.

So far not looking good. She's at 66% after 50 miles. I'll report back.

Any further updates in gauge performance after mod Ken?

Got nearly 230 miles of mixed driving from a tankful on mine the other day before it seemed to settle on 0%. Just before it would jump back up to 4 or even 7% as I braked or came to a halt. Strange that readout seems to have preferred values.
