My S&S is not a happy camper. I first thought that it was traces of water in the fuel. I used 'dry gas', basically 99% isopropyl alcohol, and that helped but did not cure. I am trying a fuel stabilizer now specifically designed to deal with ethanol but that is also verging on myth territory.
I have been reading up on it and there has been a significant increase in mechanics replacing damaged fuel pumps because of this. I have already replaced mine due to failure.
Until the law is changed and the Feds stop giving tax credits to the refiners for using ethanol I guess we're stuck with this.
Does anyone out there have an opinion or cure? If I lived next to an airport, I could fill up on pure aviation high octane goodness without a trace of ethanol for twice the price but It might just be worth it!

Being a fellow Vermonter, I can say we're blessed with many stations that sell ethanol free..a nice drive is up 100 to Rochester, I've filled up there many times.

The s&s manual only mentions octane, no mention of gasohol

I'm lucky to have a VP Racing gas station I stop at on Saturdays going to our car shop which has 93 octane with no ethanol $5.00 gallon
There is also recreational gas at a few stations it's 89 octane with no ethanol $2.75 gallon
Both seem to run fine along with 93 ethanol meaning no issues with the fuel for me
I wish I could measure head temperatures of the different fuels to see which ran cooler ?

Avgas and other kinds of leaded fuel will not only destroy the cats. It will damage the O2 sesnors as well as the lead will cause reactions to the platinum covering. This will result in ECU trouble because the complete engine algorithms will be confused.
Using leaded fuel is no good idea.
I am mainly using 98 octan premium fuel (or higher if available) due to the restrictive standard exhaust pipes which are causing a lot of heat and a higher tendency for pinking.

Have no intention of using Avgas. Don't care about the cats or the platinum as I live in Vermont and the yearly inspection determines that the wheels are attached and the lights work. Messing up the ECU is more important.
This appears to be a local problem as most people go cheap for their cars and very few cars actually require high test fuel so the underground tanks will have frequent change overs for the 89 and 91 but the 93 will go slow and the ethanol mixes do not last long at all. That stuff will attach to water in short order and phase split and drop to the bottom. The local auto parts stores are doing a great business selling fuel conditioners and dry gas as well as fuel pumps! The problem is known and unfortunately mandated by law. Until that changes this problem will continue. When I go into New York State there are stations that sell alcohol free fuel and I make a point to fill up there but that is over 50 miles away.
I would love to get 98 octane here but it is rare. I lived in Germany for a year and discovered that even diesel fuel had higher cetane ratings over there due to it coming from mostly Saudi crude which is a superior oil to begin with. That level of quality here is mostly unknown. Flying J Travel Centers had the best fuel as they had their own refineries. My F350 loved it!

We ran on 100 octane in Switzerland 🇨🇭 & Mogster ran really sweetly - now I will always go as high an octane as I can get (without ethanol) due to the problems associated with it eating everything it touches as experienced by a lot of motorcyclists with their bikes.
