Five new boots on the Morgan today. They even put the spare back on the right way up!

The old ones had date codes of 2005, so they were in dire need of replacement. Shame they werent worn out though.

5 for £300 was pretty good value too. Great service as well with no issues with all the particularities that come with spoked wire wheels.

If anyone is interested, I got them done at Tyres Northampton. smile

Well done. The risk isn't worth the small outlay

Mine are from 2009, and will be replaced this winter. They are getting stiff. 6-7 years is max. It is about safety.
Cheers,
Bert

People often forget that old tyres are as dangerous as well-worn ones, and it's not something you can inspect visually.

This post from Matt Farah is worth a read. It talks about the real reasons for the death of Paul Walker (re of Fast and Furious fame). Read it here

There's no cut and dried formula either. Some people say 5-6 years, with an absolute limit of 10.

Better to be safe than sorry!

(sorry if the above sounds like a lecture!)

Tyres are so much more than simply round and full of wind. I'm like that..!

Your life, your passengers and many others all rest on four contact patches about the size of your outstretched palm. That area has to deal with hot and cold, sudden accelerations and decelerations and going sideways at the same time. The area needs to squirt water out of the way in fractions of a second sufficient to dry the surface it touches, and still do all of the above.

No, sometimes it's good to lecture..

In real terms, tyres are brilliant value and yet we moan..whilst we drive cars that cost many times that value.

Don't skimp on tyres.

Ever.

I have often been on the end of "how can you afford an expensive car like that" and sometimes I have replied that I can"t afford not to have one. Tyres for example: we have just renewed the Skoda Fabia 1'2 TSI front tyres at just short of 200 euros and there's Joe renewing all five on the Plus Eight for £300.
