My next little project is one I've been meaning to do for a while but kept deliberating whether to cheat or do it properly

Well I've decided to cheat as I don't have the balls or the engineering skill to do it properly

Inspired by Cain's 'stick on' warning light bezels and also because I saw FellMogs Andrew's Plus 8 with VDO instruments having these very same Smiths bezels on last weekend which looked great.

Old VDO instruments bezels are not like Smiths in that they are not easily removed or replaced -it's quite a tricky job so I decided to stick some Smiths ones on over the top with silicone

Bought a set off EBay and removed the tabs with some snips and polished off any resultant burr with my WorkSmart sharpener

Looks a good idea to me, and probably less fiddly to do than the little bezels!

I repainted mine and found removing the old bezels OK (was nervous about damaging the glass). Also means you can fit new gaskets etc.

Looks good though Stewart.

What a great idea Stewart - I am up for that.
I have tried in vain to find a decent dashboard clock with a black bezel.
This is a suitable way round the problem.
Thank you grasshopper!

Ah! Now that's a solution I am still waiting for.
There have been a number of comments before on TM regarding the quality of the warning lights.
They qualify as next to useless for me.
There are great solutions to round bezels; none for the oblong version it seems.
Does anyone have a solution for this 'feature'?

Well after my little disaster smashing the glass on an aeroscreen, I cheered myself up putting the chrome bezels on

Job finished but I'll let the silicone dry overnight before cleaning up
