I wouldn't go down the modify route personally.
I'd spec up a roadster as close to an ARP4 as possible - MMC may well assist with this . Yes there will be cost to change but likely less than bolting on lots of bits and going through the hassles that will involve.
You would then have a very rapid car with lots of low down pull. However the roadster isn't as agile as a ARP4 i expect. OK, I haven';t driven one but i think you'd need to do a fair few miles in one before committing.
Paul - is a Plus8 out of reach? Just a thought - V8 BMW engine and trad looks......? Now that really would give lots of pull and in a chassis that can cope with the power.
Now wheres my lottery ticket?

My Supersport when correctly remapped and tuned gave 205 bhp and was a smooth and powerful car . My ARP4 was noisy gutless and thirsty In My view required remap and new exhaust . The Roadster is quiet powerful and everything the AR should have been . One very happy Hecter now ...

Paul why not use one of our 2.5L builds, that way you can keep your gearbox and have more torque?

What are the implications for insurance, when doing such mods. I would think it would be less complex to change vehicle and keep as std. as practical for insurance purpose, if not you could have huge problems if a claim is ever required.

Paul hope your keeping well. IMHO modding the ARP4 would be a step too far, financially and quite a bit of work. It's not just the engine and gearbox, but also dash and ECU (tied to the engine) unless your going bespoke, plus exhaust, I could see this all easily getting to £20+k. If you really want to change then I'd go for a nearly new Roadster, put Williams 6 pot callipers on it and if you like it Suplex rear end(but I have reservations), personally I'd rather spend it on fully adjustable Quantums front and rear and tune to how I wanted it. You'd have a lovely torquey trad. that handled and braked well.

Normally, I am all in favour of modifying cars, but it has to be said that in so doing one destroys any resale value left in the car.
When it's only a few thousand pounds that's usually a price worth paying, but in your case, with a practically new ARP4, I'd say you'd be better off selling it and getting something else.

Beside the here discussed possibilities, "how" to change an engine or a car, I must honestly say that I fully! agree with Tim. Don't alter (= destroy residuals) a brand new car and especially don't do it in such a substantial manner.
Somehow this thread has to handle two objectives ... one path is about what "could" be done (generally) and on the other hand there are the thoughts about what "should" be done - or even not - considering Paul's specific car and situation.

Paul, I replaced my 2L Duratec with a 2.5L Omex Duratec. It produces 217bhp & 200 ft lbs of torque with a very flat torque curve. It sounds great, goes really well & is a excellent car for touring / blasting about. It isn't a cheap option however I did have to make various other mods (suspension, LDS, bodywork etc) to compliment the engine. You wouldn't have to do these. I was also surprised how little I made on selling the old engine, however your Cosworth is significantly more desirable & should make substanciatly more. I would suggest that you do the sums to see the cost difference between 2.5 or MR11 MOG 3.7.

Hello Paul
I tend to agree with Heinz. A swap to a V6 could involve a lot of work, increase the insurance because the car becomes 'modified' and make it more difficult to sell in the long term.
Should have stuck to M3Ws!
Something else...... Just up the road from you, at the Ring O Bells at Moorlinch we are having a joint MSCC Wessex and MTWC SW Group lunch tomorrow (Weds). If you're free please come. It would be great to have a catch up.
