Ok guys, this thread could be boring to some, and its a relatively common question to ask in most other forums, but I'd like to say my piece anyway...
I sometimes read the spotted thread over in the PH, and so often people seems to make a fuzz when they spotted some Fezzas or Lambos, and I often think to myself.."HOW BORING, as common as muck..." Then again I thought... what if I have upto 150k to spend on one toy/weekend car? Would I be buying a Ferrari myself and not a Morgan? After some very long and hard thought about it, my answer to that is, I would still buy a Morgan, because its retro styling will never be dated, unlike other cars the styling would instantly outdated as soon as a new model arrives...hope it make sense confused2

My question is..would you still buy a Morgan if you have 150k to spend on one car only?

Kin, this is a question that gets asked a lot on forums BUT, is asked a lot because it's a good one and people's attitudes change over time; hence, their response often changes.

For me, I realise that I need a reliable, easy to drive and comfortable daily driver. Per annum, I can often do in excess of 25,000 miles - so I spend a lot of time on the road!

When the weekend arrives, I like to enjoy my car and after going down the Porsche and M-Power BMW route, I decided that I need a weekend car that captures a sense of occasion, has soul, character, personality (whatever you want to call the qualities that are hard to describe but so easy to feel when you are behind the wheel).

I also factor in two other 'wants/needs' - in the first instance, will the car date (partly to do with will it hold its value or become a depreciation disaster); and, secondly, is the car going to attract negative attention.

The second issue stems from the fact that I'd rather be understated than scream 'look at me' from the roof tops (hence an orange or yellow Gallardo being out of te question) but also I enjoy peoples positive response to 'things'. The Aero, as we've often said before, only ever gets positive attention - people are genuinely interested in it and do not judge you adversely because of it. And while I'm not one to shy away from something just because I'm worried what people will think, I just don't want the hassle of a keyed car, people cutting you up, people dinging the doors, just because they make a value judgement based on a material possession.

So for me, it would have to be something that had innate beauty and charm. A car that was timeless and provided both a sense of occasion and soul when you drove it.

If I was still allowed a daily driver, I'd buy a 1973 Porsche 911 RS (Touring spec, so I could have the rear seats for my daughter) for the weekends.

Followed closely by an Aston DB5

And if I was being impractical (due to lack of rear seats), a 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster. laugh2

And, if I could choose another innocent the 1950's Mercedes Gullwing 300SL would also be on my list but finding one for

Aeromax for me, I love it! love

I also believe with a Morgan you get a better response from others, maybe a respect / curiosity kinda thing, where as a Ferrari, Aston or lambo driver

Love it but I'd miss the roof-down driving!

Agree about the inherent negativity regarding peoples responses to Ferrari, Aston, Lamborghini and Porsche

I think with 150k I'd be off to the classic auctions - ether chasing a mint DB4 Vantage or either a Maserati A6G (though 150k would be a finance 'deposit' on one of these!) or a Bizarrini 5300GT (beautiful!) - or a beaten up 300SL Gullwing that I could restore in my retirement and in the meantime just oggle in the garage.

In a word YES, but make the budget somewhat larger and the answer would be:

New Car - Bentley Brooklands love

Classic - McLaren F1. I'm sure you don't need a photo, but just in case you do love notworthy

Aeroman thumbs

Sorry but 150k is three cars not one. Unless of course the limit is 500k in whichcase it is STILL three cars, just 2/3 different ones smile

So my three cars would be:
X5 (or new ML/RRSport)
Conti GT (yes I will perm my 'hair')
Aero 8 (Black with black interior and side pipes)

smile

At heart I'm a classic car fan but lately found myself selling the older stuff in favour for Modern. That's how I ended up with the Aero. Went from Tr6 to plus 8 to Aero all in about 3 months.

The Aero encapsulates all that I enjoy with old cars without the greif of corrosion and breakages. It still has the charm. I will have an Aero for ever.

Personally I couldn't spend that money on the mandatory Ferrari or lambo mainly for the negative image and as someone mentioned...They're out of date within a week.

I did recently take delivery of a 997GT3RSbut I don't believe these date in quite the same way......They are always classics.
