I was wondering what advantage the librands exhaust is over the standard factory exhaust on a 4/4 Sigma? Is it worth £500 plus vat
Anyone made the change? cheers Andy , why not put a 90 deg side exit on(librands have them ) and remove the pipe after the silencer , it sounds totally mad and is cheap as chips ! Is this just a tip you change then? ie remove the pipe behind the standard muffler and clamp on on a 90 degree tip facing out at the rear of the stock muffler? That sounds nice and easy, but I can't see this top on the Librands website? Do you have a picture? This would stop me dragging the tip of my tail pie every time I go up my drive from the road too

http://www.librands.co.uk/products-view-167.htmlIs the 4/4 a 57mm fit ? If not you may have to get one from an accessories shop .

No the Librands one wont fit the standard 4/4 silencer as the pipe is 48mm - a 50mm or 51mm OD 90 degree bend will be needed ( to slide over the silncer pipe)and this should also fit the original clamp .
I ordered the Librands one last night , it seems in error - but will report again when i have offered it up.
Update - Been out tinkering this afternoon. Took off the rear pipe from the back of the silencer and put an very short angled section of exhaust ( from my stash of "might come in useful" bits) to see what the change is like. I have it angled down away from the tyre.
Took the car out for a run. Yes it sounds much better and gives the car more character - its not over loud but is a bit boomy at wide throttle opening. Lovely on over-run and low speed take offs. So i reckon the side exit may well be the way to go! Wonder how the side exit will change the note from the angled down under the car exit.
I have been on ebay and have several stainless 90 degree bends coming.
I cannot see how taking the 4 foot back pipe off can improve performance - its virtually straight anyway - it may be just the improved sound BUT it does feel a bit more "zingy" somehow. illogical i know, but adds something to the car.

The Librands 57mm angled pipe arrived today. I have fitted it to the standard 4/4 silencer by using a sleeve ( actually a section of flexi exhaust that was a perfect sandwich fit between the standard silencer and librands pipe). A larger 58mm exhaust clamp fitted the standard bracket perfectly as the holes are elongated anyway from the factory.
I had a spare 4/4 tail section and cut the last 6 inches off which is a very snug fit into the Librands pipe - giving a nice polished rolled lip that finishes it off really neatly.
Its not "boy racer in a corsa" loud thankfully but has a lovely deep, mellow sound in normal driving and a wonderful bark at high revs. Its really nice sounding so thanks very much to all for the advice.
I didn't dismiss the advice about the librands manifold and full system - truth is i simply couldn't afford it having bought my Morgan. What i wanted was an exhaust sound that suited a sports car - i found the standard set up just sounded a bit bland somehow. I guess coming from a M3W that was bound to happen. However for less than £50 its transformed the car so I'm very happy indeed! Thanks again for the advice.
PS If anyone else wants to fit the librands side exit to their 4/4 standard silencer i have plenty of the flexi exhaust left at work that i can hack a 6 inch length from and send you. It'll then fit like a glove.Just send me a PM. Happy to send FOC to TM members.

I'm glad you've come to the same conclusion Andy. Likewise I couldn't afford/justify the extra expense but thought £50 was worth a punt.
What we did was cut the last inch off the tailpipe that we'd taken off and welded that on to the piece coming out of the silencer and attached the Librands exit to that.

I've fitted the full Librands System incl. manifold and 200 cell cat. The improvement in performance are clearly appreciable. But the sound was to loud in my opinion. Last week I changed the silencer and the tail pipe and fitted the original ones. Now the sound is deep and much more quiet. After all the reports in this blog I'm motivated to fit a side exhaust after the standard silencer as an experiment.
