The 8 small ones (4 on each clock) are real ones mounting them to the aluminium plate, the 6 big ones are there for effect, although drilled and bolted through.

I have a new 3W and would like the dash to be retro rather than as it is. I have seen some interesting pictures on the forum eg. Blake. I will be grateful for any information please. Are there any instruments of traditional appearance which are interchangeable as far as connections are concerned. Any relevant info will be appreciated.

Hey Cxxx / Black Adder
Just realized you've mounted the Adriatica Clock and Chrono. Were they still in use, i.e. mounted at the last Grindelwald meeting?
Did they ever fail due to vibrations? I read of some sensibility of the clockwork on several pages :-/

Did you find gauges that worked for your 3-wheeler? Did you design a new dash? I want to get more readable gauges and go with a vintage look as well. Please let me know what you have done for these issues. Thanks!! jpn

Pete Pete - only 4 years late, but yes they do fail. Look great but battery doesn't last long and one of them keeps stopping - not recommended!

Ha, fancy clock and it failed. I strapped a Timex watch the the receiver, just in front of the handles, to my 50 caliber machine gun and after firing several thousands of rounds at the enemy it still kept on ticking. Since the hands were luminous we could keep trak of the tedium of being on watch all night or any part thereof. It was tougher than my Omega watch.

Good story Lightspeed. I learnt a long time ago that the more you pay for something the more superior the problem will be. I had a boss in the early 90s that yearned for his idea of a perfect company car even though it was too expensive for company policy. The car in question was a BMW 520. The executive team finally relented and let him have one. After that the dealers service engineer more or less resided in our car park fixing squeaky wiper blades, loose carpet etc. Etc. This guy was a touch obsessive about the car. Then one day I was in his office and the service guy popped his head around the door and said “I’ve found the reason for the dim brake lights sir, the gas pressure in the bulbs was a bit low”. Say no more.

IMHO, that is funny, similar to the air in the tires needing rotation.
Older and more mechanical things tend to last longer than the newer high tech stuff. But then you throw the Japanese engineering into the equation and almost nothing fails prematurely, especially electrical.
It would be interesting to see what the Japanese engineers would do if they were assigned the task of taking a MOG and not substantially changing the appearance but change anything else they wanted to make it run forever.
