I have been lucky enough to own lots of wonderful cars over the past 45 years.

I so wanted an M3W and was fortunate to be able to buy one in 2012.

I sold my three bikes to fund it ...and to create the space in my garage.

Many of you know my M3 W journey ...a very disappointing one to say the least.

But ...I visited the factory so many times I had the chance to drive several different four wheelers. And hence the transition was made.

Why?

Classic car experience ....with heritage ...and modernish running gear!

It's a great experience every time I drive.

And I must also add the very welcome bonus of the social side of Morgan ownership. A big thanks to all my TM friends for their friendship.

Why a Morgan?

I can remember as a kid about 8 years old going to the local toy shop and gazing at the Corgi die-cast cars in a huge glass cabinet. So exciting. Somehow owning a Morgan brings back that same feeling.

A Morgan has a soul. I'm not sure where it comes from but its not marketing. Maybe because its British and made by hand - it feels special to drive and i feel part of an exclusive club of people who "get it". Morgan owners are a fantastic bunch of people too.

But keeping it very brief i'd choose these words

Special - exclusive - fun to drive

I would echo what others have said about having a vintage driving experience with a new car.

I also think there's a sense of joy of owning something beautifully made- much like owning a nice clock or piece of art, and you can appreciate this when you drive it.

So I wanted a vintage look sports car to replace a bike for touring. I didn't want to have to fiddle around with it.

So far I have only, added a whole lot of extras, including but not limited to radio, aircon, fog lights, modified the suspension front and back, changed the tyre size, changed the dashboard and all the instruments, change the bonnet by fitting an air scoop, and changed the engine by fitting throttle bodies, changed the exhaust system, changed a good chunk of electrics. The chassis and the seats remain unchanged

It wasn't sound or performance for me, but simply a fun and unique car that is usable. The view down the bonnet too....

Performance cars are unusable in today's busy and camera clad main roads and too wide for quieter country lanes - the Morgan is ideal in this environment.

I was smitten by the vintage look and feel decades ago, and then came to appreciate the Morgan's quirkiness and customizability. This was reinforced through a series of works visits in the 80s when my mother lived nearby in Great Malvern. No other marque has had such a hold on me, except vintage Bentleys, which are out of my league. Last month, after four decades of yearning I finally started shoping for a car and found one--a 1960 Plus 4, which I'll collect on Tuesday and drive to winter storage. So close, and yet so far!

Born and bred in Malvern I saw them driven around all the time when I was young and always wanted one. The Ford crossflow was my favourite engine so the 4/4 was the logical choice when I bought mine almost 25 years ago.

* a peculiar expression that I have never heard outside my native Yorkshire.

The Gloucestershire equivalent is "Well bugger me down dead!"
