Just talked with Mike Hensley at Ohlin's USA
Packing them up tomorrow going back to them to be checked out.

here is what Mike emailed me;
It’s not a case of the shocks not being strong enough for the front end. I tested the strength and perimeters of the stock shocks before building those. Not sure why these are having problems but send them to me and I’ll have our Service Department do a warranty claim on them. They’ll rebuild and send them back to you.

here is what I said and sent some picture too;
front shocks wearing away too soon? Maybe not strong enough for the weight of the front end?
Driver’s side unit leaking and the passenger side can’t be adjusted, the black turn nob is stuck.
I have been hearing one of my springs collapsing on a hard bump making a metal on metal sound.
I turned up the settings to full control of the damping. It became a much harsher ride so when I when to turn them back down 10 clicks, well one won't turn now.
also have one driver’s side leaking a little?

First observation was one of the stainless steel incerts on the top passenger shock cracked apart.
When I took off that top shock mounting bolt the two incerts pieces fell to the floor. The other driver side incert was intact.

I've wondered about that myself, considering the proximity.

Not convinced that heat is such a big problem, I've adjusted the Ohlins fronts a few times, and the Suplex before them, always with bare hands and no burns! So long as I have managed to avoid touching the headers at least. doh
Do keep us posted on how they handle the investigation and repair, hopefully it will be quick and hassle free; they don't come cheap and good back up is to be expected.

Got a call back today from Gary, Ohlins repair service manager, very nice person.
He is very interested in getting feedback on how much the spring collapses as the shock goes up and down, looking for spring travel.
From what he can see from taking my shocks apart and inspecting the parts that are warn, he thinks that the spring in not collapsing very much at all.
The shock seams to wearing very hard at the top of the cyclinder shaft because the spring isn't doing its job by having some spring travel, all shock/spring movement is on or at the top range of the shock.
Meaning it could use a softer spring which he said would make a big difference in shock/spring working better together.
He asked me to do three things;
First was using a floor jack to get the front end up off the ground then measure and see how much the spring collapses when you bring it back down to the ground off the jack and measure it.
(From what I remember dropping the front end down off the jack, the spring didn't move-collapses that much)
Second was to see if I could get a GoPro camera to look at shock movement, say riding over some railroad tracks, again looking to see how the spring is working in this motorcycle shock package now on a car-like front suspension on the M3W.
The third was to use a zip tie at the top of the spring the see what kind of spring movement there is. (Still may call back to ask more about placement but I think the GoPro will show everything)
Lastly was why the stainless steel incert broke on one of shocks tops is because the M3W mount bolts are larger in diameter that the motorcycle bolts so they bore out the factory motorcycle incert some to meet the M3W spec size. Once you bolt it in, it will stay together under the pressure, it's only if you take them off do you run the risk of replacing it IF it breaks again.

So the good thing is the shocks are coming back repaired free of charge.
Ohlins is very interested in making a great shock absorber solution for the Morgan M3W.
That with some testing my already great ride may get even more enjoyable!

Now that's Something to Celebrate on Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to All 🦃🍗🍻🇺🇸👏

Cheers to them, that is some service. Granted you pay a premium but the quality and support seems to merit that. Definitely moving up on my list of upgrades when I get my morgan.
