Hi all Am l correct in assuming the gear box (5 speed) in my 1995 4/4 1.8i is a type 9? There is nothing in my documents to confirm this. If so any recommendations on which oil and am I better sucking out the old and refilling or looking to top up, if necessary?
Cheers Bish

That's the one! I was looking at LR Stage 1 for some reason... Which is not Ford... I will now have to find a totally different thread on another forum to check I haven't told a pal that his LR has a Ford box

Now we've resolved that any advice on the Oil as I wouldn't mind having a go this winter (replacing the gearbox oil on an MT75 box)

Now we've resolved that any advice on the Oil as I wouldn't mind having a go this winter (replacing the gearbox oil on an MT75 box) I am using a Type 9 which does not have a drain plug. Recently I removed the engine/transmission. All the transmission fluid drained out the back (where drive line goes) all over the garage floor. OUCH! While I had the transmission out I drilled and threaded a hole where there should have been one. Careful to clean out all the drill shavings etc. I guess I am "Old School".

Hi All
sorry no response for the previous advice, circumstances beyond my control.
My dear old dad always said if you get the wrong answer, you're asking the wrong question.......
Does any one know the best oil to use to replace the current oil in my MT75 (1995 4/4) gearbox. I've seen the red ESD-M2C186A suggested and also an upgrade to the honey coloured WSD-M2C200-C. If someone has recently changed their MT75 gearbox oil I'd appreciate an opinion. Also an amount (1.2 litres?).
I suppose the same question for my engine oil (Zetec silver top) and axle.
I've only had the car a couple of months and although the service book looks full....its still only a book.
Any tips/ advice on the general servicing would be greatly appreciated and I'll have a word with santa!
