Good to see I'm not the only member on here with one on the way!

Regarding rapid charging, use of Ecotricity's electric highway is still free for Ecotricity customers, otherwise £6 for 30 minutes. The cards are obselete now and have been replaced by a smartphone app.

Although the EV3 doesn't have 50kW DC rapid charging, looking at the connector, and MMC's quoted one hour charge time, it looks like it will have 22kW fast AC charging (three phase). This means it'll charge at 7kW off single phase, giving a home charging time of about four hours when taking down the reduced charge rate as the battery nears full capacity.

I will do most of our charging at home and just charge when out as and when required- our other car is electric and we do the same with that.

I wouldn't worry too much about long-term battery health- there's plenty of other EVs that are five years old with over 100,000 miles and companies springing up offering reconditioning of Li-Ion cells in everything from cars to power tools. Wear will be accelerated by long periods sitting completely full or empty, so if putting away for the winter, leave it about half full.

Daft question not knowing much about electric vehicles - could you charge one of these via a petrol generator?

I have a typical Honda builders generator I use for power tools.

It runs for ages on half a gallon of fuel plenty enough to charge for well over an hour or two and you would get more miles electrically than it you put the fuel in a car's tank.

Any reason why this would not work?

Give the information on the post preceeding yours as long as your generator is capable of delivering 7kW continuously there is no reason why it wouldn't work.

In my limited experience of these small site generators they are either 2.5kw or 5kW ones, clearly larger one's are available.

You would probably need a higher than 7Kw rated one as they seem to run at 75% peak power.

Yes I agree they tend to chomp fuel at maximum output.
The 7-10kW are in the £1k + bracket so not very economic really as an alternative to domestic power.
If you have a remote storage for the car that's a different question.

Although the on-board charger is rated at a maximum of 7kW per phase, it will charge at a lower current. EVs normally come with a 13A three pin plug in case a dedicated charger is not available, and most will charge down to about 6A.

Charging from your 2.5kW generator would only add about 10mrph (miles range per hour charging), compared to 90 odd on a fast charger, or 400mrph the Tesla Supercharger network chucks out.

Thanks for that - i guess you dont get something for nothing hence a small generator would not be cost effective.

Excellent, 3 of us now. Looks like Shooter will be the 1st owner, so we will watch his posts with eager anticipation.

In theory production should start next month, but we will see. I am aching for more news and of course a test drive. I was hoping that it might tie up with my birthday next week, but no such luck. I have been eagerly reading the various mod threads on the 3 Wheeler forum page, it will be interesting how many will become obsoleted by the new design. My guess the Fairborne windscreen will have to be aftermarket for legal reasons.

When did you get your deposit in?

Well no news yet from Morgan, but I am starting to think about colours. Not many EV3s to choose colours from yet though, here's what I have found so far:

There's the very pale blue prototype driven on the Fully Charged video from 2015 which is nice.



There's the grey motorshow car, very classy.





And the metallic black Selfridges car, which is great but I swore never to have a black car again as it always looked filthy.




But look, there's a yellow prototype from 2014!



I am waiting for red or blue ones to look at, but the yellow is my current favourite. Harks back to the 60's yellow on black Lotus Elans.
