Just considering a few mods for my 4/4 2.0 duratec car and the idea of a little more exhaust noise is appealing. I've read very positive comments in a separate thread, so for £25 plus vat and delivery it seems a bargain. Are they too noisy?
Looking at my car the rear exhaust section contains the sleeve and the box out let is straight. Librands image seems to show the 90* bend ends as straight. So I'm I correct in assuming I'll also need separate sleeve/clamp as the two pipes will only butt together? If so any ideas on where these are available?
Also, ultimately I'm thinking of a new free flowing sport manifold and cat. Would retaining the original centre box and side exit loose much to a new full system?
Thanks in advance
Andy

Andy, I got the Libands side exit for my 4/4 Sport. When you take the tail pipe off cut a piece off the end that connected to the silencer and weld it on to the piece coming out of the back of the silencer so it makes a collar. You can then slide the site exit on and clamp it.
It made a nice noise after doing this that I really like and made a difference to the performance. My suggestion is do this mod first and see if you are happy with the improvement and then decide if you want to go the next step to do the manifold. I didn't but couldn't afford/justify the costs but others have done that on here.
The other thing is, fill up with super unleaded and stamp your foot on throttle and adapt that ECU!
Have fun!

Thanks Roger,
Cutting the original system and welding the collar back on sounds like a lot of messing around. I'd also want to retain the option to refit the original so it will need a little more thought.
Any idea whether this mod would effect the MOT?
Thanks again,
Andy

It wasn't actually that bad - we used a bit off the end but if you pop along to somewhere they change exhausts I'm sure you might be able to get a bit of something similar. There is also probably other ways of attaching the collar to the pipe.
It passed the MOT without any problem.

Any exhaust shop will carry a range of 90 degree bend sizes and the y can easily flare it to fit your silencer. That's where I got mine cost $35.00AU in Stainless. The difficult part was that I did not want to remove to much of the pipe comming out of the silencer to shorten it (had to take some of in the end) and the silencer finishes so close to the rear arch that you can't aim it straight out the side or it fouls the black end of the running board if you don't take a fair bit of the silencer exit pipe. That resulted in me having to aim it down and sideways slightly. The hardest bit then was calculating an angle to saw the 90degree exit pipe that aimed the exhaust away from the tire, did not foul the back of the running board and looked OK. If you are a very fussy sort like me, allow 3 hours for measuring and remeasuring, wrapping it with tape to settle on a good angle (again and again and again until happy)

Look on eBay. Stainless steel exhaust pipe, reducers and bends are available and cheap to buy.
The reducer is likely to save you the aggravation of welding.
On a general note, avoid using U clamps on the exhaust. They will indent the pipes making it extremely difficult to dismantle at a future date, particularly if someone has overtightened the clamp. Mikalor make stainless clamps and these are a significant improvement over U clamps.

Thanks guys,
A quick Google search has thrown up a few different options. It does seem its possible to get a 90* bend with a slotted flare to suit the box stub.
Can anyone confirm the exact outside diameter of the 2.0 duratec system?
Regards,
Andy

Andy, you are better off measuring the existing pipework on your existing exhaust system.
Depending on the location of your centre box and clearance between the box and the rear wheel, consider using a 45 degree bend; it will reduce the amount of material and weight hanging off the rear of the centre box.

Thanks David, There's a bracket/support either side of the box so hung weight shouldn't be an issue. More like a problem will be the lack of space to clamp and route the pipe. I'll try and have a look tonight..... dependant.
