Mr. Shapiro, maybe it's also an indicator of the current self entitlement and immediate gratification culture we create and harvest in our modern world, particularly here in the states.

Having just gone through this whole process myself, I lost count of how many times my dealer told me prior to and after submitting my deposit, receiving my build slot and designated build week, that MMC's scheduled times are highly speculative.

My point being, with few exceptions (Draggin's build), maybe this is on the shoulders of the customer. An exercise in self management of expectations.

Unless of course, some of the US dealers are creating the idea that we would be receiving realtime updates and status checks from a company that prides itself in it's use of old school techniques.

I beleive that the factory has progressed slightly from the famous Morgan Order Box.

A large wooden box where new orders were put in at the back of the box and worked their way forward. The order for the next car for build was taken from the front of the box.

But, who knows for certain? oldgit

Visiting the factory is (splendidly) like travelling back in time and IMHO long may it remain so.

I have worked in industry for the last 48 years as a product development engineer and wherever I have worked the "Customer is King".
Without customers you do not have a business.

We were not the normal interface with customers but if a customer query came in that the sales people could not answer it was passed to us to provide the correct answer.
If this was the case, we would make the answer our top priority and then carry on with our normal tasks after the customer was satisfied.

KBMOG, I believe in your response lies the catch 22 to the order update and status issue.
Although MMC takes a deposit to secure a place in line, I don't believe we, or the dealers for that matter, are considered customers for that product until it is completed and payment has been made in full.

So, the question we should be asking ourselves and our corresponding dealer, is what product does my deposit actually entitle me?

You mean you didn't get someone to clamber on board a car transporter to take photos? hide

Can it be fairer than that.

Quaint and "old fashioned" doesn't have to mean opaque. It would seem reasonable to have a web site, even if only available to dealers, where the status of each build was updated as things progressed. I suppose there is a possibility that Malvern really doesn't know what is going on - with respect to what car is waiting for what, or where it is in the process, but even with Morgan, that's a bit hard to believe.

Enhanced visibility into build progress and status can only help to strengthen the bond between the customers and the factory as the car moves through the process - a most exciting time for those of us invested in the outcome. Sometimes a bit of technology can go a long way toward opening up this visibility!

When I ordered my new Ram 3500 truck last year, I had information on the production process, and shipment process updated daily. That's obviously more than Morgan would likely provide, but a bit more access to the current status of builds, and schedules, would seem a reasonable enhancement for us customers...

Glad your experience was enhanced by a dealer who was willing to make you aware of the reality. I based my comments on what I've read on TM, so I have no reason to agree with you.

Now let me say I Love Morgan. And I Love Morgans! And I love My Morgan! But.......... My tipping point personally was when i got the email that my car was done and off to the shippers, that i owed them full payment and would start owing them storage. Let me condense the next week into a few lines. Oh the joy! Its done! We were extatic! By the time i read it they were closed for a Bank Holiday. I contacted the shipper directly, they did not have my car. Luckily a very kind soul called in a favor and had someone take a look at the factory. There sat my cars frame in one corner, body in another. I lost it totally at that point. I got the car eventually, its just about exactly how i wanted, with only a couple scars from its matathon birth,
and i am thankful. All is forgiven, but it does cross the line between quaint old world methods and just sloppy. Everyone said once I had the car id forgive the process. And I have, but it did boil a part of the enjoyment of a once-in-a-lifetime experience out of me.

Or, you're just a spoiled American baby with the need for instant gratification, lol!😂
