Can someone tell me the best option for a more robust yet simple and easy replacement battery for the M3W, or point me in the direction of the thread where it was discussed?
I can't find it but I remember there were some great light-weight but powerful options suggested from the bike world

Thanks for the link. Seems like there was no real conclusion. Has anyone found a good replacement that is a straight swap (same dims/ same terminals/ more power)?

Just about any decent battery is going to have screw in terminals, meaning terminals don't matter, get the kind for the application.

It sounds like you're looking for a drop in solution when there's not one that is an exact match. More power same dimensions? That's moving from one technology of battery to another and in those cases they're not really concerned with dimensions from one to another as they aren't intended to be a drop in swap.

Likely what you'll find is you'll need to fabricate some sort of spacer or fastener system to hold a lithium ion battery in place. And if you find one that's at comparable size it's probably going to run you $300+

They posted the stock battery info on there which is a banner 53030

With that information and the links from the other thread I imagine you could find something close enough that it wouldn't take much fabbing to get it to stay in place.

Do some googling and let us know what you find out. In fact the MARELLI 53034 seems to come fairly close in dimensions and it was one of the ones linked to from that other page.

If you like Varta why not go for greater capacity 40Ah battery with same footprint at nearly half the price.



It's taller so mounting studs will need to be longer and cable terminals will need changing to suit but no big deal.

I have got a Magneti Marelli 53034 Lithium Ion battery. It has worked very well, lots of cranking power, very light, compact and no need to keep it on a conditioner.

It seems not to be available there any more but may be somewhere else. Downside is the cost, about £165 a few months ago. There are probably cheaper Lithium Ion alternatives about now.

I don't know much about Lithium batteries (vs lead acid), apart from being lighter what else justifies the price?

I use my car about once a week on average, and for the rest of the time it's on a battery conditioner plugged into the 12v supply on the dash. I understand that Lithium batteries don't need conditioners as they don't discharge when not in use, but I guess there is still a small draw from the ancillaries even when the ignition is off - how long can it be left before it drains the battery?

I fitted the Varta and had had no problems, in fact it starts first time repeatedly with no complaint, whereas the old Banner would give up the ghost very easily.
