We've just had battery back-up fitted to our 4Kw solar panel set-up. I'll see how that works after some months.

My logic and maths are sound, just selfish.

The Morgan is exempt from all discussions about fuel efficiency and logic simply because it is a Morgan. This is "The Rule of M". thumbs

I'd like to replace the E Coupe with something much more sensible. But I cannot, for 2 reasons.
1. To buy a new E Coupe Hybrid next year would cost about £500 a month. That is 450 or so L of diesel. We actually spend about £60 a month. OK, the road tax would be less, so I'd save about £10 a month.

So, to be "responsible" I can spend £6000 a year. The responsible car will do everything the irresponsible one will do. I can think of many, better ways of spending £6000 a year.

For me to "Go Green" I need a far, far bigger incentive.

2. Caroline, swmbo, owns the car and refuses to discuss changing it.
Which trumps all other arguments, really. . . . .

It is also Ironic, at least in my mind, that the little CLC, which costs more in road tax than the diesel, is actually more economical, based on the use patterns.

Finally, there was a time that I'd have done anything Felicity asked me to do. Even sell the Plus 8. But not now. I'm older and wiser....

In the M4 servises a few weeks back THREE charging points, but dozens of cars filling at the pumps. It just can not work. Apart from the loss of tax to the goverment.

Induction loops buried in the road or in car parks would allow charging without cables.

Huge loss in efficiently and speed of charging

Take a leaf out of experiences gained from schemes being used in Holland.

Once the country has an infrastructure to be able to charge all our vehicles and a safe and environmental way of processing wasted batteries then it might be time to take the internal combustion engine off the city streets.

Reducing speed limits increases congestion in peak periods. It is very simple you just have to do the maths. Reducing traffic lights, toll gates, pedestrian crossings etc does reduce congestion and therefore increases flow to get the vehicles off the road in the shortest possible time.

The advent of the car as a consumer product has led to people working far from home and in places difficult for a commute by public transport. It is a fact that some places now have little or no public transport because of the lack of demand.

What is needed is for people to return to working and living in short distances and a return to public transport. Private vehicles could be banned from city areas. Milan has gone part of the way by banning old polluting private vehicles from the city centre.

All very wonderful but I don't see much change happening in the near future.

My next car will most likely be a Euro VI diesel hide

I'm sure sometime in the future the electric car will become the norm.
There's a case I think for electric cars to be fitted with a power "cassette" that is replaceable with a petrol engined cassette available for hire for longer journeys via the dealer,
