The spider is pretty and attractive but Fiat dealers tend to be some of the worst when it comes to service back up.

Oh but a spider is a mazda really? Well sort of but with a fiat engine-which is likely ok but with Fiat electronics which might not be so good!

Will they inject water into all the electical connections at the factory to give that classic fiat character? I bet the Fiat bits will drop off before the mazda sourced bits.

Still the spider is the prettier car in my eyes. maybe an Arbath version will come along....

Well, I'm very happy with my "blancmange" Mercedes SLC. I think it is pretty much the polar opposite to the Morgan & I love it for completely different reasons.

Comfy and zippy, yet economical and practical too; I managed to fit 60 bottles of burgundy in the boot with the roof up, obviously).

Unusually for a convertible, with the large glass area and panoramic roof it's a really nice place to be with the lid up too. Yes, it drives like a Mercedes. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

Aero 8 in budget: http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/415583/Found_a_bargain_Aero_8_Series_#Post415583

If not how about a Mercedes R129 SL500 (v8) or SL600 (v12)? Both within budget, depreciation free and very nice cruisers and reliable as well - from an age where Mercedes were honed from granite.

They do make a manual V6 but not a V8. But the ZF 8 speed box with flappy paddles is a great compromise. For town traffic you can use full auto whilst for the open road you have a clutchless manual with lightning fast changes.

Somewhat above the budget but I have always liked the idea of the Frontline MG.

For me it ticks all the boxes. Classic looks, superb finish, completely redesigned suspension, 289 hp Omex 2.5l engine, 0-60mph in 4 seconds, and I am sure it would hold its value well.

Agreed.

I first saw a Frontline at Prescott - and thought it was a restored version until I looked closer.

It was doing demo runs up the hill and looked to have very good brakes and suspension.

Would like to drive one!

You're right they do. However it seems that it's pretty rare! Over 300 cars on Autotrader; only 11 with a manual! Wow!

I think with a GT-style car most people will go auto. Especially for daily use as well.

As you say, that ZF box is pretty good.
