Hi I have a 1965 plus4 I think radiator is leaking taking it for a test next week, does anyone have an opinion of replacing or fixing existing 50 year old radiator, I'm leaning towards replacing and if so did anyone actually do it thanks in advance

I'd have it pressure tested and then recored with a high efficency core. Any radiator specialist should be able to do for you for much less than the price of a replacement radiator.

Be sure you check your tracking and take note so you can fit it back the exact same way.

Thanks Simon but I'm in New York I shipped a S2 4/4 radiator to Virginia a fortnight ago, and a +4 TR rad to Texas last month. I'll ship them anywhere! Simon @ SiFab.co.uk

My opinion is that alloy rads only save a bit of weight. They may be a bit more robust than a copper soldered rad, I don't know. I would have Your original recored. If the tank is one of the older flat top variety. Take the bonnet off and go for a drive. You will see the top tank turn into a dome and than when cooled go flat. Ask yourself how many times this can happen before the solder fails on the top tank. I have the rad guy reinforce this tank on the inside. On My +8 Bitsa I am using a copper rad that was replaced by an alloy rad. 10 more years use of this old copper rad and it does the job OK.
