Just out of interest, what tyres do you have fitted to your Mog ?
I had a couple of very scary moments on the OE Continentals. The Vredsteins I replaced them with stuck like doo-doo to the duvet in all conditions.
ps I'm glad to hear that nothing was seriously damaged apart from your pride. 6 year old OE contis - am getting new wheels & tyres in Jan - from Blockley - very grippy tyres & look the part as well. Pity I didn`t decide to pick them up earlier.

I think we both learnt the hard way, replace them early.

It does not matter what tyres you have on sheet ice. You are a passenger.

I think we both learnt the hard way, replace them early. Stay away from old Contis! I changed mine after a very scary experience. Happy now with Vredesteins.

A sobering reminder to replace my tyres next year... They will be, based on the date codes, 5 years old and with the slight excess of power over grip on Tarka good tyres are essential.
But even the best of tyres will never overcome the effect of diesel, water and the cold, as many bikers know to their cost.
Glad the damage to your Morgan isn't serious and you are OK.

Sorry to hear that Phil but glad you are Ok and hope it's not too much to get it sorted.
It is a horrible feeling when the car lets go. When I had my first comapny car, a Cavalier (hated it) I had a similar thing happen to me but got a blow out on the back right and lost it on the ice across a bend in a country lane. I was careering down the road trying to avoid the large lake and trees on the right hand side and when I finally thought I had got control back I completely lost it and went down the left side knocking out about half a dozen fence posts and landed in a farmers field. A couple of the fence posts came through the windows and just missed my head. The bizzare thing was I was bothered about the fact I'd nearly ended up in the lake and all my customer records would have got wet. Wasn't really thinking about the car that came towards me a few seconds after I left the road and it took a little while to realise how much more serious it could have been so it's good that you got away with just a dent to the pride.

Sorry to read this Phil, but glad you and Santa were OK. The reality is, it could be any of us regardless of tyres. Ray's right, once you slip on ice you're just a passenger.
Given that your rear wheels broke traction first, it proves the safety margin of traction control..!
Keep us updated on the dent issues..

Gosh Phil
Sorry to hear of the spin and really glad you are OK
Sounds like the Mog will be fine after a bit of TLC
I bet that was a bit of a shock -only done that once in my first company car, a Vauxhall Cavalier coming back from work late one night on a country lane Fortunately like your road - no walls only hedges which is a blessing
As a kid, my dad did it in a Jag with me in the back coming back from a restaurant over the tops from Menston to Keighley (Dick Hudsons for anybody that knows the road ) unfortunately there were stone walls and in the days when no one wore seat belts !!!
