Never had an BMW but needed to change the company car and this time not something give but something I wanted. Looked around and the BMW 4 Series M Coupe was in first place. Picked it up yesterday (not new 2 years old 6500 miles on the clock) went for the 420D x drive. This car has been pampered not an mark on it.
Must say I do like the looks and the driving position suits my. The engine when put in sports mode does the Job.
First impressions very good
Very much in the dog house, could be up for rehoming

Congratulations. I've always found BMW's ergonomics to be just right for me (SWMBO similarly). Just handed back my 320d but always liked the 4 series as well - very understated but a terrific drive and lovely steering. Haven't driven an X-Drive but I'm sure it will be fine. That 2 litre diesel is also stonkingly quick and flexible.

Congratulations. Good choice. We have a 320d automatic. Even in normal mode it is very quick. It has enormous torque and I always have to be carefull in the wet. Around 2000 we had a 530 V8 automatic which at the time was rather fast, the 320d is quicker by a second from 0 to 100km/h!

Headlamp flasher worked ok though! Had some idiot come up behind me as I was in the fast lane at about 10 kph above the speed limit and in the process of overtaking a heavy transport. He arrived at about 40 or 50 above the speed limit came right up to the back of the Alfa and started flashing me. I suddenly realised I was over the speed limit and touched the brakes to slow down. Took me ages to pass that truck All I can say is that he was lucky his ABS worked. I get really p'ed off with that sort of behaviour.

I had the pleasure of driving an M 4 series at Goodwood - the Alpina diesel version.
It was very nicely balanced - and much easier to control than the heavier M5.
In normal driving on public roads the balance would mostly be irrelevant - but in that moment when you need the car to unexpectedly change direction, the M4's agility would be very welcome.
