Which way up was the original starter? Will the cable connection fit either way up?

Not sure where the terminals are from your picture but my WOSP starter motor has the main feed to the terminal on the side

Glad to see You are using "British Parts NW". I have had good results from BP-NW. Cable goes on the big lug on the lower rear of starter. There is a small spade on the Solenoid on the top for your starter wire.

I actually got the starter from morgan spares my question is once the starter is in place is the big lug for battery cable up or down top or bottom of starter

I actually got the starter from morgan spares my question is once the starter is in place is the big lug for battery cable up or down top or bottom of starter Actually I called British Parts NW for an answer. But have NO IDEA what Morgan Spares is selling. Better call Morgan Spares and get Your answer.

it's all done there was only one way it would go in after install car started right up, now I'm pondering having the old Lucas starter rebuilt, to keep as a spare

Depends how much it costs for a rebuild IMO. Linda at Morgan Spares is very good at getting parts to You when in trouble. She even had a needed part for Me delivered to My Hotel in New Orleans.
