Neil it was very easy, remove the rear panel. Then literally two hose clips then if you feel on the underside of filler cap there's three nuts.

If your nervous about cutting the pipe try to twist it, re-positioning it to see if you can get a straighter angle first of all.

It worked on mine a treat, instead of 10-20 clicks at the pump now down to four, which I am more than happy with. That's filling up at the same petrol station too. I know some vary.

My car's up at the factory end of this month so I'll ask Mark or someone in Aero what their fix is too.

Not sure what the other pipe is, guess its overflow ?

The other pipe is the vent from the tank which allows the air to be displaced as the fuel goes in.

On my 2005 roadster it was that second (air) pipe causing filling probs. It was far too long and so kinked meaning the air couldn't get out. I shortened it and solved the problem. Might be worth checking out on the 8.

The smaller pipe is the vent and should not be kinked.
The larger pipe is the filling pipe.
Do inspect the pipe for cracking, which can occur with age. I changed the pipe on my 4/4 when it was about 10 years old and the removed pipe had become quite brittle.

As for garage pumps, apparently they do vary considerably in the speed at which they pump. On busy forecourts, this will be set high to get the maximum number of vehicles through in any period of time.
On quieter forecourts, the pump may be set at a lower pumping speed.

It does seem that a smooth bend in the pipe is crucial, so I thought i'd take a look.

So, on Tarka the pipe has been carefully fitted and is totally kink free. Which may well be why I have few filling problems!
