thumbsyes that's correct, seen it used to remove grease from carpets at a dealers, it is a cleaning fluid, not nice for skin, so get the marigolds on

Thanks for the various tips.

I have now treated the mat with a third application of Vanish Carpet Foam ((thanks for the tip Adrian) and it seems to have done the job.
I have also invested in a far better quality travel mug to ensure there are no further incidents.

Also, whilst visiting the local (and excellent) Halfords I noticed they have some very good looking rubber mats on sale.
I am very tempted to get some for my tintop for the winter.

I was offered a tip for a similar issue a few years ago. It consisted of finding some fresh canine faeces and spreading a little over the stain, where it should be left to dry. It won't get rid of the milk stain completely, but it will stop you moaning about it..
