Passed my bike test in 63 on an Enfield 150 2 stroke. My car test at the second go in my dad's Anglia 105E, in 64.
I still had a bike, ending up with a Velo Venom so did not buy a car for a few years. First car was a 3 year old MK1 Cortina GT, nice car but by then was starting to rust.
Cheers
John

Bike test was on my 1939 Panther sloper. Unforgettable as the emergency stop was approx 100 yards of brake drum grinding agony with me doing my best to smile nicely as I simply sailed past the examiner with full brakes on.. He passed me though after a few oh for goodness sakes.

Car test was later in a new Colt Lancer, one of the first in the country in 1975. Plenty of home made lessons in whatever dad had at home at the time, some right old weird things some of them as he owned a used car business. I can recall some exotics, jags, rover v8's, a moskvitch, Heinkel, and a Morris marina TC that I managed to get stuck one night in a field with a girl friend but that's another story!

Mine was meant to be a small Nissan of circa 1994 vintage but on the day of the test it had a gearbox issue so I borrowed my Dad's Astra (1.4).

My Dads 57 Ford wagon
First car.........
Had to make a decision on a $100 Allstate 50 cc bike or $100 29 Ford model A Town Sedan. I made the right choice, drove the Model A all through high school and sold it for profit when I went off to the college.

Well, fancy that! 1967, Morris 1100, and then I bought a 1963 Popular 100E which, unlike yours Philip, was utter crap. Glad to get rid of it for 40 quid in late 69 when I got my first company car.

Started of my Lessons in a Datsun Sunny, but when another learner wrote it off I continued in a Dual Control Datsun Micra 1.0L of total power.....

Then I bought my first car a first generation Vauxhaul Cavalier 1.6L with oil ejection system! and an internal pond facility.

After 2 years of driving my Dads Austin A40 in and out of the garage (clutch control par excellance!)I took my test in 1963 and passed 1st time.Having just signed paperwork as a marine engineer apprentice, with my new found wealth, I bought a Morris Minor. I drove it home and the second time out it stuck in 2nd gear. Took it back to "Shady Motors" for a refund.
Next up was a Morgan +4 4str. I don't remember the year but it did a 360 on wet leaves on the test drive. Had it not been for that episode I would probably be in an early grave!! I was 17 years old, and insurance was my years salary!!
