My 2000 4/4 has the 'blades' and in fact although I have modded my brakes and suspension quite a bit, I've retained them rather than go for something like one of Peter Mulberry's kits (although I do accept that the Panhard Rod set up does give better lateral location)
I stuck with the Blades becuase I do like the damping characteristics once wheel speed increases but there is- in my mind at least- no doubt that when wheel speed is slow, the Blades do make for VERY heavy steering.

PS There are quite a few photos of the blades ( including as has been said, some on GoMog) but quite a nice one- if only because it is very clear and also features an exploded view of the various parts- can be found in John Worrall & Liz Turner: Original Morgan- The Restorer's Guide (2003) St Paul Minn USA: Motorbooks International/ Bay View Books p126

Very nicely finished and illustrated( and I haven't got any oil on it yet) Also some nice, no nonsense 'Worrall-isms' eg on page 8 when talking about the standard to which a car should be restored and the fact that usually this should be the same condition as when it left the factory, he says, " No one would be cruel enough to do that to a Morgan" and then goes on about "rust and black chassis paint applied with a hairy old paint brush"- all good stuff!

It's a bit pricey at £24-99 and the one gripe I have about it is that although it gives the impression that the last edition was in 2003 I found myself wondering at times how much had been added since the first ed in 1992. (EG in terms of engine info, the 4/4 stops at the XR2i engine- for the +4, it includes the M16)

Only a very small niggle though, because a lot of the info is, of course, still relevant and useful

In an article on the web I read that one can remove the thin web on the axle end and that this helps when installing the newly assembled hub assembly! Has any one else done this modification? I can see the logic in it, but I'm a bit wary of cutting bits of my Morgan, especially on the end of the axle?

Dear RubyMorgan,

The function of the damperblades has already been explained. You can however get rid of the them by replacing them with the roller barings as mounted on the new Morgans here in The Netherlands only around 50 euros) or buy a pair of roller barings from Mulberry (http://www.mulfab.co.uk/). They come with new springs as the existing ones are too long. The steering will be lighter (you really have to get used to it) but it will definitly gives you a smoother ride.

but, IMHO, does not damp as well as the speed increases
