Has anyone got a spare painted (MDF) dashboard blank?

Just toying with the idea of getting a quote for one cast in alluminium and I don't want to take mine apart unless it's an idea that has legs.

If you really want an ali dash have you considered laser cutting? More suitable for this application and avoids the problems that you will encounter with casting (and easily doable in stainless too). If you can find a simple 2D drawing package, sketch out roughly what you want and upload a DXF file to somebody like this for a quick quote. If it is what you want and the price is right you could refine the detail later.

Casting in alloy could be quite interesting as you could cast in some nice rounded edges and make the dash a little more sculptural.

Would casting it in zinc work ? I seem to remember that its quite an easy material for casting from when I was a kid ( we used to cast zinc soldiers). It's traditionally a very popular material for cast bar counters in France.

I was thinking of incorporating rounded edges and possibly a Morgan script. Just need a dash to get some quotes.
On another point would the alluminium cause any earthing or electrical problems?

Not very Colin Chapman though - build in lightness wink.

There is no reason for that to be the case.
I have seen several in use.

Oh yeah. Just checked the density of zinc. I thought it was lighter than that.

Stupid idea.
