Just got my +4, 2005 year, and playing with hood to see how it works. No real problems apart from the two tennex fasteners (that's what the handbook calls them). It was difficult to snap them on when raising the hood and not possible to undo them to lower. Phil Ledgerwood used a 'special tool' when he showed me the procedure. I resorted to using pincers, protected with a piece of cloth. Do I carry pincers as part of a toolkit, or is it possible to undo these by hand? Or do I design and make my my own tool? DaveW, do you have a neoprene special for this? Another point, do I take the hood off completely if I want to fit the tonneau cover? Any tips welcomed ladies and gentlemen.

The special tool is also used for fixing the sidescreens. If you take the tension from the hood material, the tenax should pop with finger pressure (with practice). Avoid lowering the hood with these still attached!!!!

The full tonneau cover fits over the hood, but interferes with seatbelt retraction unless you roll it back very carefully.
The hood cover fits over the hood, and can be fiddly to fit the poppers - but looks better than the full tonneau cover IMO.

I've given up with my full tonneau cover for now, which is why I made the special half-half cover, and winter buddy tonneau cover which is still in place!!!.

The older style hood with umpteen fasteners comes off to fit the tonneau cover.

Did try it with both front and back fixings released, but still a problem. Will exercise my fingers for strength!
Phil did show me the tommy bar insert on his 'tool'. I may measure the fastener and draw up my own tool and see if I can get it made as a project for one of the engineering students at my old college (just retired but I still have a bit of a say there)

Yes I like the hood cover and made me sweat fitting it on Sunday.

It is the easy fit hood so will try the tonneau to see what it looks like

It seems unusual to me that you need to apply such effort to move the fastners.

They can be stiff but should just pull off.

I have the verflex hood and the tennax fasteners are a b***er to fit when the fabric is cold and will not stretch. They are also pretty stiff to pop off as they are under such tension. It usually causes at least minor injury to the fingers to attach. Does the tool make fitting any easier?

Obviously the factory had many complaints re this as my June 2009 Plus4 has plain poppers on the bit just behind the door. As I also have the everflex hood it is a bit of a Bu**er to get them on when the weather is cold, but not a major issue.

Two Mogs in and the Tenex's on both have not been a problem to release with the Thumb and first finger (to Pull Out the Middle bit).
On the later Factory Fitted Everflex Hoods (both of our's had) the Tenex is the first thing to unpop after releasing the Back Hood bonnet type closure. Its the same before lifting the back hood for luggage access or for downing the whole hood.
As Dave W warned, I blasted a tenex off the first Mog by lifting the back without undoing them first. The replacement was a s*d to fit due to the thickness's of hood material there.
If your hood is of the multi fastener type then maybe fitting hood tensioners would solve the problem? Happy Popping Off

I have exactly that setup (factory "easy up" hood in everflex) on my 2005 4/4, and I find that the Tenax fastener is actually very easy both to fasten and to undo, just requiring a pull using finger and thumb - I do not have or need the "special tool". However it is the first thing I undo (both sides) before lowering the hood - at this stage it is not under a lot of tension - and the last thing I do up when erecting the hood, again to avoid excess tension. As above, be careful not to attempt to lower the hood without undoing both the Tenax fasteners.

Being hand made and fitted, of course your hood may differ from mine with the fasteners not in exactly the same place, and if they are under any lateral tension they would be hard to undo. Have you asked a specialist - either a dealer or a trimmer? I suspect someone like Shaun at Allon-Whites could easily sort this for you.

Thanks everyone. Have tried it again and still can't release them with finger and thumb. I think you have a point nputtick about hand made. Will contact Phil Ledgerwood about this, it is under warranty at moment

On my 2003 Plus 8 the tennex fasteners seem to work OK, but I'm having great difficulty at the 'other end' i.e where the hood engages with the header rail on the windscreen. Can someone enlighten me on how to adjust the "claws" which seem to have a small locknut and presumably control the tension? Is this type of hood what they call the 'everflex'?
